Are the rules in the Chapter Approved 04 still the current "offical" rules for the SM Cursed Companies? The Legion of the Dammed to be more to the point. A buddy of mine somehow managed to find someone selling allot of the old LotD models. Like 30 of them the lucky guy. We've been looking around to see if there was a offical rule list and the list in the Chapter Approved 04 seems like the most current offical rules for them. Can anyone verify this?
from what i have heard, when the new space marine codex was released, the rules in CA 2004 were considered obsolete as it was made in 3rd edition. So as far as i know, you have to use normal rules for one of the cursed foundings (damn, rending on black dragon assault marines combined with a chaplain, yes please!)
2000pts Orks 4-2-1
The rules are no longer official, but they are still good enough to use between friends, with a bit of common sense about how to apply things to the new codex.
The best way to go about using them if you want to do so in any official setting is to figure out a way of making the chapter using traits.
LotD wise, I would suggest using drop pods for all units, and not taking things that can't 'pod'. Say they are 'portals' to the warp opening up or something, and job is a good 'un. Tournie legal and everything

Okay, I don't play SMs so bare with me here please. Looking at the CA 04 rules list. I would think that the cursed companines would be sticking with thier own rule set. By that I mean not getting any of the fancy new traits and what not that the SMs got in thier new codex. I would think that as long as you stick to the CA rules, and dont give them any of the new traits, they should be okay. As for the LotD thier list isn't all that fancy. Other then everything on thier list gets a invulnerable save even the vechiles. Well everything but the Cursed Knights though. On the down side for them, everything deep strikes when it enters the field. I personally hate deep striking because I just have bad luck when doing it. With a army that has to deep strike. You know that something is going to end up in terrian or in another unit. Looking at the list, I personally like the rules for the Flame Falcons.
Well this is a topic of much debate, but i have managed to get an official Ruling:
The Base Rules for 3rd edition are obsolete. THey no longer apply. HOWEVER-
Codex & Army lists are still considered "Official" and able to be played without opponents consent. This is becasue you cannotn hold one army up to the light of a 4th Ed codex when they do not have a 4th Ed. Codex. Reasoning is as follows-
Daemon Hunter Player- "You can't use those man. They aren't in the codex."
Feral Ork Player- "These guys don' have a codex. They are in Chapter Approved 2004. They are an Army list. And it says "offical".
Daemon Hunter Player- " SEE! SEE! SEE! No 4th Ed. Codex, means no Feral orks! Ha!"
Feral Orks Player- "Ok, so where is your 4th Ed. Daemon Hunter Codex?
Daemonhunter Player- "Oh uhmm, uh. THey don't have one."
Feral Ork player- "Oh Really, Guess you can't use them. Or Dark Eldar, or Witch Hunters, or Chaos SPace marines (Any of them), Necrons, Or Orks at all. Damn this sucks, now we can't play Warhammer 40k!"
Daemonhunter Player- "Yeah man, this sucks. LEts forget this, and buying hte spiffy expensive models and go play some Halo."
Feral Ork Player- "Yeah, GW Rules explanations suck."
I hope that was entertaining.
Here is the official Skinny-
Codex and Army lists that HAVE NOT recieved a 4th Edition update are still playable. They can be brought to the table as Codex and Army lists are nt "rules" per-say. They are a list of Points values and abilites, that can be applied to the new rules as well as the old rules.
Sad point of fact however, is that coming down the grapevine is that GW will soon be ceasing to allow certain offshoot army lists for competitive play. These would be-
Eye of Terror Armies.
I can't tell you why, when, or whatnot. But this I have heard fromt he horses mouth. As for your Legion of the Damned. Yes, the lsit you have is still playable. As are the-
Imperial Guard Armored Company (This ALONE proves the old variant lists are still playable)
Kroot Stand Alone Armies
Cursed Founding Chapters
THis I hope, clear sit up for you guys. It certainly did for me. (LONG LIVE THE LEGION OF THE DAMNED!)
I bet it's because they don't want to go back and adjust all those non-codex army lists to the new 4th rules set. I think some of those lists are still perfectly fine. I've looked at making a feral ork list a couple of times. I heard rumors that they where going to put a feral list in the new ork codex. Although I doubt that's true.Originally Posted by HumanusImperialis
