I went to games workshop the other day and one of the guys over there told me i should get neophytes to bulk up my Black Templar squads. He said one good reason is that they can soak up wounds that were directed at the space marines and that allows my Templars to do what they do best, rip the enemies of the Emperor apart in close combat. Another plus i heard from him was they can also have a couple extra shots in and they can cause some pretty bad damage. BUT, some minuses are that space marine scouts are expensive and can be a big chunk out of my wallet if i want them to be effective enought to allow my SM's to cross the board. Also I'm not sure they are worth there point cost. I want feedback on what I should do next to pump up my army. And for fellow Black Templar players, if you have any good strats i would love to hear them! Thnx.
Aren't their new plastic scouts that you could buy so it would be so bad? Either way I think in general it would probally be a good idea to get them as they really add some bulk to your squads so that when they are wittled down (which they will) their is still some powerfull ininitates around to finish the enemy or if your fighting a CC army you will need the added numbers.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

I play BT and I find it very effective to max out your squads with 10 of each and make the full crusading squad that way you got 10 deaths in a squad before the enemy ever even hits your initates (space marines).
You sure thats the way it works? Bad armor goes first does it not, so the first unit shooting at you is going to kill the neo's, then the next unit to kill the Initiates because majority turn to 3+, and doesnt it keep going back and forth so long as the majority also changes?
yeah hate to burst your bubble. but if you have more 3+ saves than 4+, the 3+ dies first. bascailly, they are good at close combat. i use them all the time, i dont care if my inititaes die, they would die anyway even if i didnt have the neophytes. they are still good.
First - you can not have more neo than initiates.
Second- follow mixed armor rules- majority is used
Hmmm... thats something to chew on. But, i still dont really get what you mean when you say that the 3+'s will go first, before the 4+? is this a new templar rule im not aware of?
I see now. DISREGARD MY LAST MESSAGE. I get what you mean. You guys are saying that you use whichever is the majority of saves in the squad. But what if they are tied? Do you get to choose
The mixed armor rules are described on page 76 of the rulebook. It states that when a unit with mixed armor saves has a tie for the majority, the lower save is assumed to be the majority.
