Even since COD's where relised I wanted to make a realy effective army that was totally different from others. I have really like rough rider ever since I got the IG codex and I thought of may a mounted (rough rider) army. There is however like most things a cache (dam it!). In order to do this I need to make a new doc. So far I want to take the Xeno-mounts, Carapace armour, Veterans, Mounted and Rough riders. This is what I thought of for the "mounted" doc
You may take 0-3 rough rider squads as Troops. You cannot take any heavy support tanks (leman russ, Demolier, Basilisk). You can take armoured fist squads as heavy support only.
May not be combined with Mechenized, Drop Troops, Priests. Note:They can only take rough rider upgrades.
Now I thought of having rough riders with Xeno-mounts and then Carapace amrour giving them A 3+ armour save! The good strenght attacks would provide a pretty formitable force perfect for COD.I'll add more Ideas later but for now post your optinions. Do you think Warhammer players in the nt would live with this?
If COD stands for Close Order Drill, Rough Riders can't make use of it... Not sure what you'd be refering to otherwise. xD
I am pretty sure he is refrencing Cities of Death.
Personally, I don't like rough riders, but, if you do, and you find an opponent whos willing, then I say knock yourself out and have fun!

It would work wouldn't it? and If they didn't agree I could just use infantry squads (like a normal army). I meant COD to be Cities of death.
I think it'd make more sense that armored fist squads would be your only other troops choice, rather than making them heavy support. So you could have a mech force with attached lancers.

If the tanks succeed, then victory follows.
Yeah I wanted to do something like this a while bike.
I'll outline my success in detail.
Roughriders charge. Terminators die. all 10 of them.
next turn, entire enemy army turns to rough riders, and then there is just a smoking black whole where the rough riders where.
Point is, they are far too fragile to be used in great numbers. A squad of 10 is good, but when you have 30 ish? THat's entirely too many 5+ armor saves that cost almost a spacemarine each... The Xenos Riders or Carapace (or both) would be cool, but then they really do cost as much if not more than a space marine. Sure, it would work.
And it would be fun.
But it would be hella' expensive. And a pain to paint. I never finished painting my riders, because there is so much surface to paint. Also, you will pretty much have to customize any models you get, to make them perfect.
But, it is a cool idea. What I would suggest, is just having a unit of 10, then just have the rest of the army mechanized... That could be kind of interesting.
I don't know. You know, now that I think about it, that would be a pretty cool idea. Sorry If I'm loosing you, I'm thinking as I type. But yeah, if they had Xenos mounts and carapace, and you had 30 of them, that would be a pretty nasty unit... but you really need something to back them up. Or screen for them. Look at the Forgeworld salamnder scout vehichle... decent armor, fast vehichle, autocannon and heavy bolter.... Two of those on either flank of the rough riders would be pretty deadly. Or if you pulled them up in front of the riders, and made a breakwall of fire, then split them open when you charged... that'ed be sweet.
THink about it, think about why you are doing it, think about how much it would cost you, and if you are willing to pay. Then give us an update.

Pssst.... give me kudos....
Hmmmm..Thats what I was thinking. I'm going to include about 1/2 good squads of em. I also want to add some "GIANT REPTILES" from that GW creature feature. Jhagadurn, you posted a good point there........I'm just thinking how effective this army would be even with out the Mounted doc...........I don't want to include many tanks (except chimeras) and I wouldn't really choose mezenised...........Also I'd like to include a hunting beast............I'll post my atmy list later.....
