So I've been reading a lot of tactica and such, and one thing I rarely see mentioned is the Vindicator tank. My question is, what do people think of these things? Their ordinance weapon is quite powerful, but the range is abysmal. As I am a newb to WH and Marines, I don't have the table experience to properly judge this weapon properly. So, tell me about these Vindicators, if you would.
Well Vindicators have the best ordanence stats in the game but it has short range. This is very effective against anti-infantry or against a heavy armoured hq choice.
It can also be used against vehicles. I would only use it against the transports that have troops inside so you have a chance of damaging them.
I LOVE my vindicator! It hits REEEALLY hard. Be sure of this, though, it will draw a lot of fire. Everybody fears it!! For good reason! Also, 24" range is not that bad, just like an assault cannon...Originally Posted by OSUMacbeth

My friend uses a vindicator and its annoying. I play necrons, and he usually just sits his tank behind some units and tucked away in the corner so i cant get to it with my scarabs. Once he finally does use it had takes out a couple of warriors. But being necrons i take it out pretty quickly once he starts using it.
I love the weapon... AND I DON'T EVEN PLAY SPACE MARINES!!!
It's a lovely weapon, and 24" is allright unless it's a REALLY BIG battle! most other ranges for Ord. is a bit overkill (but reallistic) I mean 78" or something like that....... Who ever needs it? thats otta be a MEGA-megabattle.

do a serch, so many topics on vindicators
I play Black Templars, so my choices are limited as far as heavy weapon support. I try to take a pair of Vindicators, especially against armies with 3+ armor saves. The 24" range means that you can't sit back a shoot, but with an assault army like the Templars this isn't a problem. I always take them in pairs because when you take only one it becomes a fire magnet.
Just out of curiousity, whats next? Maybe you can make an issue about the fact that GW didn't define the action of 'rolling' a D6 to actually mean dropping it in such a manner as to produce a random result; thus making it perfectly acceptable to just put them down with the face up of your choice?

But, as one of the guys stated, this topic has been covered exhaustively in the past. A quick search will give you what you need.
They are a pretty good tank variant. The demolisher cannon is a very nice gun. The reason I usally don't take it is two fold. First, I'm both a BA and IG player and as an IG player I'd take my Leman Russ Demolisher because it has better armor and alternate weapons to supplement it with. Secondly as a BA player I find that my best choices for Heavies are Baal Predators and the occassional whirlwind. I have plenty of power weapons/fists already worked into my list so the great AP or armor penetration is not entirely necessary and some of the worst enemies of the BA are infantry with power weapons/rending which the Baal is (I believe) better suited at killing than the Vindicator.
I'd recommend it to almost any SM player, a very fine tank (and tanks are goooood (Y):wub.
Just remember tho that it IS a tank, and like every other tank, it tends to get shot at first. So with the 24" range it MAY die before its within range of shooting anything. Always keep that in mind when deploying it on the field, or deciding whether to take one or not. I believe its the type of tank that really depends on which army your playing.
