Ok I thought about this long and hard and my next 40k Army was gonna be Fighting Nuns or Nuns with Guns. But my only experience in 40k is with a Footslogger Ork army. I was planning on goin with a purely faithful army with of course 2 Exorcist just not sure what else. Do you get Faith points based on the unit and the leader ( I.E Seraphim squad with a VSS). Also what are good units/upgrades. Not totally familiar with a shooting phase so not sure what weapons I should get. Also what should I do with my Canonesses? Upgrade them for Independent fighting or give them thier own retinue?

I have so many questions I usually pick my armies based on an idea or concept this one was basically Sweet Nuns that fight instead of the same old ooo look more Space Marines.

There are a bunch of tacticas and articles around on LO and other sites (40K Online and Bolter and Chainsword are good) which are worth reading for a detailed examination of the Sisters.

    To answer your specific questions.

You get faith points sometimes from the squad leader, sometimes from the squad itself. Check the entries in the codex carefully.

If you're concentrating on the Sisters, they don't have any weak units. I can run down a number of different squad configurations that are well regarded:

6 Celestians with two meltaguns. Good for anti-tank work and general support. Giving them an Immolator improves mobility and also lets you get an Immo without using a precious Heavy Suppor slot.

10 Celestians, maybe with VSS with Eviscerator. High resilience and reasonable cc ability make this a tarpit unit for enemy assault squads/characters.

10 Battle Sisters with HFlamer and Flamer. Excellent for anti-infantry work. Can even wipe out marines and terminators with Divine Guidance. Can be mounted in a Rhino to improve its mobility and survivability. Use the Rhino as cover when they've disembarked.

14+ Battle Sisters. Very large and tough footslogging squad. Advances slowly but a pain to shift. Good for taking objectives.

10 Dominions with 5 Stormbolters. Can move and kick out a fair number of shots to a good range.

8-10 Dominions with 4 meltaguns. Can reduce anything to molten slag. Short-ranged but deadly against literally anything heavily armoured and expensive.

6-8 Seraphim with hand flamers, VSS with Power weapon/Eviscerator. Mobile and maneuverable. CC ability is relatively low for assault troops, but firepower is high. Pin enemies in cc, then use their Hit & Run ability (see p73 of the 40k rulebook) to skip out in THEIR cc phase, leaving them high and dry for renewed shooting and charging on your next turn.

6-8 Seraphim with inferno pistols, VSS with Eviscerator. Similar to the above, but with greater anti-tank ability.

8 Retributors with 4 Heavy Bolters. Similar to marine devastator squads, this unit is good at chopping down infantry and can even wreck light vehicles.

Canonesses should always be taken in preference to Palatines. Check their entries and you'll see why. A Canoness has a fairly middling statline, but can be made into a good cc fighter. The Blessed Weapon is an excellent piece of kit, there's hardly a Sisters army without one (they must make these rare and sacred artifacts on a production line). Many give her a Jump Pack, having a retinue often only cramps her style. Other good bits of kit for her are an Eviscerator, Frag Grenades, the Cloak of St. Aspira, the Mantle of Ophelia, an Inferno or Bolt pistol, a Brazier of Holy Fire, Litanies of Faith and the Book of St. Lucius. Don't give her everything though or she'll cost too much.

One thing I would strongly advise with the Sisters is very carefully reading and learning their special rules, in particular the Acts of Faith. Faith is an essential cornerstone of the Sisters, using it well is crucial.

The Sisters I think are a really fun and characterful army to use. Few opponents are familiar with them, especially all their special abilities, which can give you the advantage of surprise against opponents who have the entire Space Marine or Chaos Marine codexes memorised. A nicely-painted force is sure to attract attention as its something a little different. Congratulations on going for a force which is so refined and elegant after the crude rambunctiousness of the Orks, it should make a nice contrast for you.

There is a gamesworkshop model but its sorta out of print. you have to call them and order it. Also, Forgeworld makes one thats cool for a little cheaper. A lot of people use Whirlwinds too.
