I recently came into a large quanity of Valhallan models. I decided to do a Communist themed army, not the most original thing ever with Valhallans but I really liked the character behind it. I named the army after the Communist Russian symbol and based the armies performance around it.
The Hammer is 3 Demolishers, which can pund anything into the ground. The Sickle is the Guardmen and their Heavy Weapons which scythe down units with lots of shots and templates.
I was thinking about converting every squad to have a banner pole with the communist symbol on them and paint the tanks like WWII tanks. I'd also probably cut out little propoganda posters and attach them to the front or sides and have Guardsmen ride on the top.
I was just wondering if anyone had any additional ideas or comments because it always helps me think. Thanks. :ninja:
I don't know... perhaps model a Basilisk chasis with an extended Whirlwind launch assembly in an attempt to replicate the Katyusha?
I really like the Valhallan models and they'd be perfect for an army like the one you are talking about.
I think you've got a good idea for using the communistsymbols as names for the different units, but to use the insignia on banners is IMHO taking it too far.
In many ways one can compare the Sovietunion with Nazi-germany, and to use symbols like that could actually make people feel hurt.
Keep the "spirit" but remember that it might be better to be a bit more sublime then to have genocidists symbols on your flags.
In todays world, it's socially acceptable to use this symbol on a t-shirt, despite it being responsible for more deaths then even Hitler or his War. That's just the way the world it today, especially in America.Originally Posted by Andusciassus

Yeah, I personally have a hammer and sickle shirt from Russia (just studied there) and it's got some nice CCCP initials in yellow on a red shirt. Pretty snazzy.
Anyway, I love the Communist Valhallan theme. I really like the idea of trying to recreate the katyushas. You could also try to convert your grenade launchers into PPSh-41 sub-machineguns.
Also, remember to include plenty of Comrade Commissars to keep the masses in check
Yeah I've been working the list over and over and I have an Inquisitor who will act as the person in charge of propoganda, as that's what they pretty much do in the 40k universe. I also have an Assassin, so that'll be my soviet spy. I'll probably use the old female Commissar model for my Assassin (Callidus) and I'm thinking of using the Preacher Jacobson or something model for my Inquisitor. He has a big beard and looks Russian, I'll just convert him. I don't have any Basilisks in the army but if there's a way to make a Katyusha from a Demolisher and be WYSIWYG I'd love it.
As far as the symbol goes, I think anyone could appreciate the fact it's more about pushing the armies theme and not the fact that I'm advocating murder and war, it takes a pretty un-rational person to draw that conclusion I think. Plus maybe it'll just encourage my opponents to try harder and beat me and my damn Commie Guard.
As Darguth said, lots of commissars. The use of such officers was the traditional Soviet way to keep their armies in check.

Look around on the GW site under the Gamesday section. There is a guy who did the exact samething adn you will probably like it. Its under the Grand Tournement section.
The Predator Lingers forth. Suddenly the sound of several wipping sounds can be heard far off into the distance, a second later the once mighty Predator ignited with flames. "Sir what was that" The srgt replied "Its those damn Broadsides"
Hear the wip, fear the Broadside.
Yeah I know that's where I got the idea.
Just want to keep you all on topic here - keep the national discussions and the likes to a bare minimum. It's quite obviously just an army theme - discussions about what's right or wrong, or whatever, need to be left for the Enhanced Forum. Keep it on topic here.
