recently, i have thought about including a command squad in my army. however i couldn't decide whether or not to give them infiltrate or furious charge. i really wanted to give them furious charge becuase it would make them rock in the assualt, but they would never actually reach the enemy alive by footslogging. i thought about giving them infiltrate to solve this problem, but i'm afraid that since they are the only unit in my army that will infiltrate, they will be a really big target and could easily be destroyed by a lucky ordinance shot and then i would lose a relatively high points cost unit. however i also considered using them as a counter charge unit. that way i could give them furious charge and they could camp out behind my firing line and help my marines out if they get assualted by the enemy. if i where to do this i would put two missile luancers in the unit so that while they are sitting thier prepairing to charge if the enemy gets close they could provide some fire support. does this sound like an alright tactic or does it sound like it won't be very effective
Well, Command squad is prettymuch CC by design. though give them a pair of meltaguns and infiltrate, and they can be some pretty hefty tankbusters as well, for reasonable cost (if you don't go upgrading much else) If you give them furious charge, you probably want to give them transport as well. A drop pod works well, as it ends up within 7" of the target on average, though you can't charge right out of it, the pod makes for good cover until you can.

What you want your command squad to do should depend on the rest of your army. If the rest of the army is CC-oriented, give them infiltrate and back them up with an assult squad. Equip 2 meltaguns, get a veteran sergeant with 'fist and possibly a champion. Alternatively, give them furious charge and a drop-pod, but this can backfire if you place them poorly.
If the army is shooting-oriented, give them furious charge and keep them as counter-charge squad. 2 heavy weapons can be an option, but 2 plasmaguns often do well enough. Characters here are much the same as in the other variant. The champion is optinal, and should only be taken if you need that extra power weapon (2+/3+/4+ saves)
