Good to see the forum back up and running.
After my weekend away at a tournament (my very first, and walked away with award for best composition) was just wondering if anyone had some good hints and tips, maybe even a tactica floating around, on how to beat eldar with space marines:ninja: ?
Have never played them before, ever and not a super experienced player but ended up having to play 2 different eldar armies.
In my first i got my prosteriour royally handed to me, wiped out by turn 4:cry: , and in the second i lost with only 2 units left on the table .
Was a 1750 point tourny, any hints or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
Cheers to all.

Well the advice would be easier to give if you told us what the two eldar armies were like. There are over a half dozen eldar army types out there so tactics and tips do vary for each one...

eldar can be a handful.
wraitlords are devestating. shooting them is the best bet because they will demolish your marines in combat. lascannons should deal with them, as well as assault cannons.
farseers can be a handful, on your charactes especially. they should be delt with in combat. a squad of scouts, sergeant with power fist will deal with the farseer and warlocks quick.
to kill guardians, bolter them to death.
Aspects to get in combat with: Dire avengers, dark reapers, fire dragons, swooping hawks, shining spears.
Aspects to not get in combat with: Banshees, scorpions, warp spiders.
things to lascannon/ assault cannons: Falcon/ prism tank. wave serpents, wraithlords, wraith guard.
the best way to deal with eldar is to do this. when deploying, place the unit that counters the eldar unit in a position where it can deal with the threat.
example. the unit of banshees is set up in the center of the enemy deployment zone. place a devestator or tactical squad with HB in LOS of that unit. it should be taken care of.
Thanx, thats pretty much the kind of advice i was looking for, it was really hard considering i didn't know what each unit was/looked like or anything. The one part that will really make you cry is i saw the howling banshees and thought to myself "hmmmm they look like bunch of week girls, i'll take them on with my assault squad and masters lightening claws".................BAD IDEA!!!!  :cry:Originally Posted by Edition42

Heh, that's because you didn't use Terminators against them. Actually, terminators are just as vulnerable against power weapons, but they do get a 5+ save and any that are left are going to POUND those banshees into the dirt. I know. I was the crestfallen Eldar General.
"I thought I had them right where I wanted them..."
I know whirlwinds and heavy bolters are cheap and make mincemeat of Guardians and Aspect warriors alike.
There's just no easy way to take down Wraithlords, so do your best to avoid them. They're slow and only have one heavy weapon. Shoot down all the Falcons and Waveserpents and Walkers first with your lascannons and missile launchers. Then, if the game isn't over, take some potshots at the Wraithlord(s) and see if you get lucky.
Your assault squads (especially led by a character) are actually quite effective against most eldar--but avoid Banshees and Scorpions unless you outnumber them. They actually die to bolter fire because their low Toughness means more wounds. So rapid fire instead of charge, and maybe they'll fall back.
I think the only solution to the Farseers is to have an Epistolary Librarian. His Ld and Psychic Hood are your only hope against the Mind Wars that pick off your heavy weapons and characters with seeming impunity.
Other than that, I can only suggest sound battlefield tactics--which are best learned by playing!

But the thing with Eldar is, they have many different units.
"DUH!" Ihear you all say, but let me explain.
Depending on Craftworld, the troops choices alone for the Eldar are many & varied, while we get a Tactical Marine or Scout. Their aspect warriors are capable of doing their namesake so well it's not funny, and who says you have to take only 1 type?
While we Marines are good at adapting, Eldar are the hardest to adapt to. Be careful of that.Sniper rifles, hidden Powerfists (let's hope it doesn't come to that), Assault Cannons, Librarian with Familiar & Furious assault.Wraithlords...
We can, in one squad, smash a Wriathlord with an average of 2.8 wounds because of our sniper rifles, thus effectively killing it. At least it no longer scores. Fear them not.
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
Ok im not really sure how this happened but, my terminator squad got beat by scorpions. Even tho they were down to about 2 guys with assualt cannons, and they were beaten by about 4 scorpions and a farseer. The seer didn't have anything more than a cc weapon as a weapon. I guess it was the number of saves I had to do. The mandi blasters i guess used up all my good saves  . But yeah they took out 2 of my terminator squads. But my squads were only about 2 or 3 strong.
So really what im saying is watch out for scorpions too. They might not seem much but there deadly.

Good point.Originally Posted by <E!_Mance>Are you talking about a full 10 man squad with all sniper rifles? Or are you talking about several turns of shooting?Originally Posted by <E!_Mance>
I don't like Sniper rifles, though I suppose they're probably effective against wraithlords (just not much else, in my experience anyway). My preference is for CCW scouts or bolter scouts with a Heavy weapon. I think they're actually more usefull because I don't rely on them too much--if that makes sense.
