So I'm considering abandoning my custom chapter and turning all my SMs into Dark Angels.
The army looks excellent (have the codex), but I've only got one question/problem: The chaplains and librarians look much less... interesting in the DA codex than the SM codex.
First, with the chaplain, can he take a jump pack and join an assault squad? I never hear DA players talking about assault squads. Are they considered useless to DA players since the DA are such a shooty army? Also, are any of the SM chaplain special rules ported over to DA?
And is it true that the DA librarian has only ONE psychic power to use? The converted model I saw in WD a while back looked great, but how useful is he without FoD?
First, I'd read the FAQ to clear up your problems.
Okay, on to questions.
Chappies can take jump packs in DA. It's just that other DA players think that Chaplains don't fit because of their assaulty-ness. I like to take Jump Chaplains for my Dark Angels, it adds a little balance so that I'm not just a one trick pony.
All character special rules from the 4th Ed SM codex transfers to DA Characters. The only thing that sets them apart is that all IC's are REQUIRED to buy stubborn and terminator honors. No choice, whatsoever.
The only discrepancy to make is that Captains are Masters in Dark Angels and Masters are Grand Masters.
DA libbies are allowed to pick new psychic powers. As per the FAQ, they start with Storm of the Emperors Wrath, and may replace it and/or buy a second power (if Epistolary).
DA shouldn't really be considered shooty, they have just as many Assault Marines as other Codex Chapters, the rules just make it better to go shooty, hopefully the new DA codex will stop that.
Adrian answerd the questions excellently, though I would say if you don't want to buy Stubborn on a DA Chaplain few players will castigate you.
Ok, thanks to both of you for the help. Looks like I can field the chappie and libby the way I wanted to. That was the last obstacle, I think. Now it's time to figure out what to do with my tac squads and rhino, which are painted the wrong colors. Guess I gotta bite the bullet and get some brake fluid in a can, or just sell 'em on EBay and buy some new ones.
Then, of course, there's the jump pack chappie out now, but I guess I'd need to green stuff a hood on him. :hmm:
Don't mind me. I'm babbling, and rapidly becoming a DA convert :w00t:
good luck with those models, i've got a similar problem. bout 100 marines to paint (trading post) got them cheap and need to convert them.
Ok fellows we have a difficult task, so we have to be more deadly than everyday.

Tactics are nice but it is violence that wins the day.
