Welcome to Librarium Online!
I remember when I first read over the codex...wow conscripts cool... But have never used them. Im set to play a 40k game in a flash with a mostly conscript army ( see if mass numbers prevails ). Every guy I meet seems to think that a 200-300 conscript army would rule.. Does anyone have some expierence with these guys? I think im not going to give 'em any heavy/special weapons because its costly and they don't really hit much ( can't have sharpshooter I believe ). Right now im basically gonna use them as a shield, and have the command squad within 12" so they don't run away ( as fast ). Plan is to force the enemy to fire at them while the Leman Russ & Hellhound clean up, and if they shoot at my Russ, unload with lasguns.
This will be my first time using a Hellhound and conscripts, so any advice would be appreciated.
Might be worth slipping a few flamers in there?...
at 9 pts...kinda sketchy ?
I dont actually use them but why would need a meat shield for your meat shield?????????

The key thing about Conscripts is all of your 10 man squads operate as One big unit...so that's 20-50 guys in one squad. at that point, their crappy LD becomes irrelevant...I definitely think slipping some flamers in is worth it: with that many conscripts there are plenty of torch-bearers to die first...
Get the Independant Commissars and Close-Order Drill doctrine, the Warrior Weapons and Chem-Inhalers Special Equipment. They'll cost (ever so slightly) more, but 50 guys w/ leadership 10 (Commissar), initiative 4 (Close Order Drill), 3 attacks (Warrior Weapons) and get no negative morale modifiers (Chem-Inhalers).
The other doctrines can't be use on Conscripts, however. BUT, Chem-inhalers is "+10 points per unit", even for FIFTY Conscripts. Furthermore, since Conscripts have no leader in the first place, the Commissar would start of as "the de facto leader of the horde". Lastly, they'll also attack at the same time as Space Marines do...
Strangely, this is starting to remind me of Grotz and their Slaver...
Erm, you'd still need to play the +10 points for each 10 man unit of Conscripts, within the overhall horde...they are still BOUGHT as individual units of 10 for the purposes of cost / allocation of special equipment, then FIELDED as one big unit.
It's still a viable tactic though...
i use them for their one purpose...TO DIE!.
the reason is that many players will charge the closest unit, in which they almost always will attack the biggest mob of guard because they think its really good coz its so big. also, as i play mainly cityfight, every model within six inches can use their full attacks, that alot for a unit of twenty of them (minimum)
also, with my fluff, (which is somewhere on this forum or the army fluff section under 'verodi 594th'the conscripts are factory workers, or gang memebrs...
anyway, i love this unit, absolutely wonderful
You need 1 infantry platoon per Conscript platoon. That means you can take 150 Conscripts at the absolute maximum. Still would be pretty cool.
I played my battle today.. The kept getting kraked or fraged (the template). It was really cool untill they hit half strength. I passed my first leadership test, but then went on to fail 3 in a row. They failed to meet the call when I needed them to assault the chaplian, and when they finially did it was to late. One cool thing was when the remants of an assault squad ( a vet sarg w/pw ), charged them and killed 4 in the first turn...only to be mobbed at the end by about 20 conscripts. Reminded me of the scene in Matrix Reloaded when all the Smiths mob Neo...kinda funny ( oh I killed him BTW ). I think I definitly need to keep a command squad with them to benefit from the leadership ( we were playing 40k in a flash which doesn't require an HQ ). All in all I was a little dissapointed with them because I ended up losing the match, however that may have more to do with my missuse of a Hellhound..which was very dissapointing ( didn't kill anything..infact didn't fire once ). Having 40 guys running at a tac squad is cool, and definitly the highlight of the game for me
