Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've not brought any models as yet, but I would like anyones opinion on the following.
The Black Templars are obviously based on the Knights Templar, so I was thinking of painting an army to look like Knights Templar (silver armour, white cloaks, red crosses) and combine them with special units/elites looking like Knights Hospitallers (silver armour, black cloaks, white crosses). I believe that both orders did join together in fighting but never really got on (my history may be a little dodgy here).
They would be led by captains with original Knights Templar / Hospitaller names and perhaps the Templars may even have the Grail as a banner icon (although that is a very dodgy link).
The reason for asking is whether this would offend anyone religiously, as both orders were religious (although both had military wings during the crusades). It would be the last thing on my mind to cause offence to anyone.
I don't think it would offend anyone because who is going to be offended by an army of religious miniatures? My bretonnians are painted black with white crosses and I don't offend anyone with them. I think that this would be really cool and I want to see what it looks like when it's done.
Ask me something about Warhammer: Age of Reckoning.
Id just like to say that this is the exact reason that I picked up black templars. I had the exact same plan as you. However I was going to make my own trait army as the black templars already have their own history. I even painted up an army in DoW just to see how they look.
Always a good idea to keep religion out of discussions and tabletop gaming.
Especially a good idea to keep the topic away from the forums
Your idea sounds creative and is simply based on history, so I say go for it and make them your own.
If anyone is petty to challenge you, just say your army is inspired losely by historical fact, any resemblance is coincidental.

PS: don't worry about offending people, if they can't take it in good humour it's their problem.
«There is no life without Black Templars.»
I am the hammer! I am the sword! I am the mail about His fist! I am the helm about his head! I am the vengeance, I am the Hate! Et Imperator Es Gloriam! Domine Salve Nos!
No one should be in anyway offenend by how you paint your models. Your color picks arent much different from normal BTs anyway. Black and white with some red/grey/skull white, for details. Im prety sure no one would notice unless you point it out to them - even with heavy coversion.
The fact that you migth consider this offensive to someone is troublesum - what kidna crazy society cares how you paint 1 inch plastic models.
Anyway, even IF someone so stereotypically nerdy knows the history of the Knights Templar and feels compelled to find it inappropriate... Ignore him.
Anon Idiot: "Uuurr. Knights Templar! They worshipped Baphomet! That's evil you know, AND not a part of MY religion... I DEMAND you play with a different army!"
Problem solved. It's just a game. Enjoy it how you will, as long as it doesn't involve plugging orofices with them in public.
I know a guy who converted his SoB army to be COMPLETELY NAKED down to the last woman and down to the finest detail... He played with them in a tournament and nobody cared.
What's a bunch of silver BT gonna do?
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
Thanks for all the opinions.
I can take it that there are no problems. So, no more posts are needed.
Should this thread be deleted now? If so how?
It doesn't need to be deleted. If you want, you can PM a mod (such as myself - full list of forum moderators are at the bottom right in the specific forum, in this case Space Marines) to lock it so that people can't reply anymore, but there isn't any reason to delete it.
