Yesterday as I was playing againts my freinds Berzerker army I noticed somthing. My shooting sucks. I basically have little or any shooting units and I was thinking of a Whirlwind with Vengance missles. Are they any good at all or would somthing else be better?
Well yes they are good. Vengeance missiles are mostly good against other shooty armys. Because you can pin their units while you shoot the crap out of them(if you have a shooty army) or move up your men(if you have an assualty army). But becarful with the vengeance missles with an assualty army. Because you can hurt your own guys.
Castellan missiles are good vs assalty armys. Because you can lay mines on your units so if they assualt that unit they have to take damage from the mines before the combat starts. But that is best if you are playing a shooty army. If you are playing an assualty army. They arn't really the best thing. Unless you want to put some mines in someplace to make your opponet think twice about flanking you from somewhere.
But if you really want your Whirlwinds to do some damage. It is best to have atleast 2.

Whirlwinds are good tanks, but note that they aren't all that great against anything with a 3+ armor save. Whirlwinds are best used to break up large units of lightly armored troops like Orks, Eldar or Tyranids. They can also be decent against armies like the Tau, where the Whirlwind's mines can come in handy to cut down on their mobility some.
If you find that your army is lacking firepower in general, then I suggest either a Predator or Devastator Squad. A Dreadnought could also help, and are pretty useful overall. If you were to post a general idea of what your list looks like, then I'm sure that there is plenty that we can suggest.
Note: As a general rule, World Eaters can't really be beaten by Space Marines in close combat, so you'll need a good amount of shooting to break up the charge as it comes in. Of course, some Marine Chapters like the Black Templars and Space Wolves can give them a run for their money, but even they need some form of fire support.

Its not a great tank against normal opponents, but against unblanced assautly lists like your typeical world eaters list, it does great.
That tank being the vindicator.
Its almost worthless against balanced armies however.
Your best bet for an overal good shooty squad is probably devs, with 4 rockets, and 4 bolters, as said by someone else i think.
Plasma cannon/gun tactical squads can also be nice.
Anything with furious charge will make a good counter charge unit.
This is one case where terminator assault squads are useful (but overal not worth the cost/worthless against most opponents)
Assault cannons work great.
Wasent this topic on defeating an assaulty chaos army.Well I would completley have to disagree. Whirlwinds are not worthless. They are beautaful anti-ifantry units. Plus they will annoy the heck out of you. :cry:Your best bet for an overal good shooty squad is probably devs, with 4 rockets, and 4 bolters, as said by someone else i think.
Now to your devastator idea. Think of what you just said, four heavy bolters. Well shotting at 3 feet and 3 shots each and space marines or chaos will still have saves.. I would rather shoot them down much faster than that. HINT HINT!!Whirlwind or vindicator. The vindicator would be beautful agianst a khrone. First of all they will not have many anti-tank, which is good so you can get close with it.:w00t:
You should ask the person you battled or go into a games workshop and look inside the chaos codex to see what they can't have. Pg 38 if you wanted to know where in it.
Well hope this helps.
One small point, Crusade i think he is referring to them having 4 missile launchers and 4 bolters. Also i don't think he said it i worthless rather that he thinks the devastators are a better choice.
Now to my idea!
Well i agree with all 3 choices, Callasten can be used to set traps as well seeing that WE rage
towards nearest target so you can predict there movement. But it will be most effective if you have more than 1.
Just a thought but if he is low on antitank, how bout land speeders?
They can pump out fire and can be used to force I'm to run sideways or backwards into traps and giving your other units more time to blast them.
Hope that i helped.:shifty:
In this instance you don't really need 4 meat shields for the Devastators, what are they going to do? Bolt Pistol you to death? In combat you're dead anyway.
Heavy Bolters are worse than ML anti SM, (1.77 kills/turn as opposed to 2.22) but in this case 4 Bolters means 4 standard Bolter weilding marines.
Plasma Cannon aren't brilliant, they know they're vulnerable and expensive so spread out alot. They don't Deep Strike or use Rhinos either.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
I think what hes saying is dont invest in a dev squad with 4 plasma cannons.aren't allowed to adjust their movement to maintain a good coherency distance.
A good korn player would of course start his unit spread out, also the korn bezekers on 2/3 of there turns, will be moving normally, thus giving them ample time to spread out.
