When I started playing I played a very troop heavy army. These armies started slow but like every SM survived and won at all cost. Now that I am starting to possess everything available to a SM general I have found myself playing more with vehicles. I was curious if anyone else has had this same progression and what type of army everyone else find successful, troop heavy or vehicle heavy???
I too have been slowly moving over to a more mechanized SM army over time. It seems like with having lots of infantry, I win more games, but each game takes much longer. When I got tank heavy, they get destroyed, usually very quickly, but doing alot of damage (mabey I need to change my tactics around  ) I think that having tanks is more fun then infantry, cuz then you have less stuff to keep track of.
I play my 40k with friendly fire.
Finally fixed the link!
Well I have always found on how I based my army was on who I was versing. As in people. But if I don't know them then I will go by what army they are playing.
I am mostly even on how I make my army most of the time.
I.E. if I am versing orks go with more troopes with anti-vehicle. If I was versing marines than I would make my army well rounded.:w00t:
Well just my imput. You should always go by what army you are versing. Unless your army is a fluff army
Hmm, funny, because I've found that I'm actually moving in the opposite direction, playing with less and less vehicles and more and more infantry. There's something about having 55 models in power armor in 1500 points that appeals to me, I guess.
Good to hear that you're still kickin' the arses of the Emperor!
I think that we make a move towards more vehicles because we realize that they do alot of damage. But, with SM armour, they're popped fast, so we lose.
I think that SM benefit mostly from infantry heavy armies. How much harder is it to kill a ten man squad by itself, than when they're in a Rhino being shelled by a Basilisk.
The nature of the Space Marine makes them highly resilient. They're shock troops. Ten shots to kill a squad or one lucky shot to knock out that Land Raider. I'll have the squad.
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
I think this army is great since most player dedicate a few squads to anti-tank roles. In my Fist army these squads become much less effective. It is very hard to take out the 13 terminators and 50 marines in my army. I usualy have a good bit left on the board at the end.
If you build a man a fire he will be warm for a night. If you set a man on fire he will be warm the rest of his life.
I also use mostly infantry these days. This is for the staying power pf marines. And the sheer amount of hot lead/plasma/missiles they can put in the air.
I also find that assault mariens and bikers are much more mobile than most vehicles in the SM range can be.
Sometimes I support my troops with Vindicators and Whirlwinds (depending on opponent). Like previously mentioned by Silver Wings these tanks can do things that are otherwise not available to SMs on foot. Very rarely do I use a Tornado to get in some early shots at my opponent.
Shut up and play.
