I don't play Ig, but a friend of mine does. One big problem he has is facing SM. In the assault phase, 30 of his gaurds get assaulted by 10 SM's. 2 SM's die, 3 IG. IG loses the combat. Why? the marines lost 20% of the squad, the IG only 10%. imo, the IG won combat. Has anyone addressed this issue? any clarification would be appreciated.
Simple. Whoever has more wounds done to them loses. Pg. 48 of the rulebook.
Furthermore, purely fluff speaking, you gotta think that space marines are generally raised in the arts of war, and are indoctrinated to expect to die in glorious battle (this is most chapters, although I'm sure not all). The IG (in a generalized viewpoint) probably has a little more to live for than death in battle (again, certain armies like the Death Korps of Krieg excepted). Also fluff-wise speaking, a Space Marine is huge (some sources say about 7-8 feet tall on average) and are massive death machines in power armour. Probably thinking that they would want as few of these things running amok amongst their ranks, the IG probably decide to withdraw, before they recieved a power armored fist through their face (yes, through, not into). At least that's what I envision happens on occasion.
Fluff-Wise one space marine would stand a very good chance of winning against those IG in CC. Of course in the game he would almost certainly die.
I don't know about one space marine taking on 30 imperial guard, but one space marine is certianly can take on more then one imperial guard. 30 just seems pushing it.Fluff-Wise one space marine would stand a very good chance of winning against those IG in CC. Of course in the game he would almost certainly die.

Really? I didn't know it was so lop sided...Thanks for the info ^_^No...its far from pushing it. Its well known that fluff-wise every marine is the equivalent of one hundred guardsmen easy. Game wise thirty is pushing it...
Well I'm not sure about 30, but a single Space Marine can easily handle a squad plus of Guardsmen without breaking a sweat.
