This is an idea I've wondered about.
Are massive Sisters of Battle Squads (20) effective? Or even efficient?
I understand that there is a large amount of bolter fire there, but I think the unit itself would be really cumbersome and clumsy.
Plus, some good AoF are unusable.
Two squads of 10 will also grant you more faith points and more special weapons while being more managable in terrain.
The only benefit you get from a larger squad is the fact that more wounds must be caused before you start taking LD tests, have less than 50% troops, etc.
I'd rather have more Faith points, more special weapons, and be less .. well, bulky, really. Bolters aren't the worst weapons in the world, but they aren't the best, either.
Also, I'd rather be able to throw them in a Rhino - with their power armour, they can use their special weapons without the Open-Topped penalty.
Okay, thanks guys.
That's what I thought, but I just wanted to run it by someone.
Just wanted to add that if you know your mission (tourney's etc) 20 woman squads can be useful in a bunker defensive roll with storm bolters, they can be highly annoying to dislodge.
Other than that sort of objective they aren't much use in a squad that big.
I've proxied a couple of games with witchhunters to try them out (still tossing up whether to ge them or not), and in some games I've used a 17 woman squad (ran out of points to take it to 20 after I picked everything else). I used them as an anvil for a couple of rhino-mounted squads to acts as hammers. I thought they made a decent firebase, and one of the main reasons I took them was for the two Acts of Faith that require larger groups. That way even with a few losses they'll still auto-pass the test (except on a 12), and the AoF will be affecting MORE sisters. I've taken down Hive Tyrants in CC with that group (and it wasn't fluky rolls). Still, I can see the argument for just sticking with the rhino-mounted squads.
