ok its pretty simple choose your flavour, assault or shooty.
Usually I prefer shooty. This is because they can shoot as they move up, and they still are powerful in close combat.
Assualt Marines may be a bit better in combat, but they don't have access to powerful weapons the shooty marines do.
Besides, might as well take advantage of terminators being able to move, and still shoot as though they havne't moved.
If they deepstrike, shooty terminators actually have something to shoot, rather then assault terminators which can't do anything the turn they come in.
Two Assault Cannons? Yes please.
I prefer my termies to dominate in shooting and assualt, thanks. ALthough i do have uses for a 3LC, 2TH squad now and then.

'Shooty' really should be called 'Super OMFG Shooty and still decent in combat'
Answer your question?
Assault Terminators are far too hard to get into combat, and there are times when combat is undesirable. Shooty Terminators are far more flexible and reliable. Do you really want to charge that Ork squad with TH+SS?

I certainly prefer Tactical Terminators, as they have far more options both on and off of the battlefield.
Tactical Terminators can take weapon upgrades (namely Assault Cannons, Heavy Flamers and Cyclone Missile Launchers) where the Assault Terminators are stuck with either a pair of Lightning Claws or a Thunder Hammer and a Storm Shield. Both have the ability to Teleport onto the battlefield, or even deploy inside a Drop Pod, and both can ride around in a Land Raider or Land Raider Crusader.
The selling point for me is the ability to Deep Strike, and then let rip with a pair of Assault Cannons and a bunch of Storm Bolters before the enemy can even react. Assault Cannons are one of the best guns in the game, and Storm Bolters aren't exactly weak either, obviously moreso when coupled with a Space Marine's excellent statline (BS in specific).
Tactical Terminators are just that - tactical. They give you options for every phase of the game, which their Assault counterparts simply can't do. I can move up, let rip with heavy weapons and Storm Bolters and then assault, pounding the enemy into the ground with power fists.
I love the assault termies, when they get into combat, they almost ALWAYS prod buttock (and their minis are sweet too), BUT...
the problem is getting them into combat. I either deploy as a huge gun line of 60+ marines or drop pod. The assault termies tend to simply be fire magnets, and are lucky to survive long enough to actually reach the enemy after dropping in.
My tactical termies can unleash hell the second they land. While the minis aren't quite as dynamic as the assault termies, in general game terms they are a LOT more effective in almost every case.
I guess my vote is for the tactical termies

I went with Assault Terminators. I load 3 LC and 2 TH into a LRC and charge forward. A lot of people poo poo this strategy, but it works. The other day my LRC survive 9 Destroyers and 10 Immortals shooting at it (for those unfamiliar with Necrons, that's 47 shots that glance on a 6), only to drop my Assault Squad at the feet of the destroyers. They lasted two turns, I took no wounds, piled back into the LRC and ran to the other side of the field to take out a squad of Warriors in turn 6. I was happy, the juicy target took the heat off of my assault marines and Dreadnoughts.

I perfer the Shooty/Tactical Terminators. They Have better options, and I can just imagine a horde 'o Tyranids charging a hill, and one Termie squads holding them off while their allies withdraw. Blasting and shreding with thie storm bolters and assault cannons. When they finally send something they have trouble killing at a range (carnie), they smash 'er up with their power fists!
Oh, and this one time, I was having a 3 way battle (back before I had realized..."these things just don't work..."), and my ten man tactical terminator squad was blown away to the last man by the luckiest D-cannon shot i've ever seen (not that i've seen a lot). Anywho, My last terminator, having passed his last man standing test, ran up, and shot the crew of the D-cannon dead. Shweet revenge! And this other time, my Tact Termie sergeant stood in Close combat with a great unclean one for 5 turns! and while the rest of his squad was slowly dying, he brought that daemon down to one wound, until he finally died, my tactical squad blew that daemon away. Three cheers for Tactical terminator squads!!!! Hip Hip Hurray! Hip Hip Hurray! Hip Hip HURRAY!!!
My 2 cents, Cheers;
