I've noticed with eldar, and fantasy orks that when a new version of a codex comes out, new units appear? My question is what units would GW add to space marines? I read alot of the Black Library space marine books, and I haven't run across any SM units that aren't represented ingame.
What would they add in the next codex?
-Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit Of All Who Threaten It-
-It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees-
Da/SW/Ba codexs will likely include different units.
Ba/Space wolves already have unique units, if nothing else, DA should have slightly different options for termintors. Nothing major - space marines are just space marines. We dont have a million different aspects.
The only unit type space marines dont really have is a monsterus creature, or weak incarnations of prymarchs. My guess is, anything like that would be a at least 2 codex.
Another possible options would be death watch, or codex death watch - with more rules or expanded rules, which wouldnt require opponent concent.
They seem to want to add veriety to the bolter, consider the heavy bolter for nids hunters, and all the death watch bolter options - it might come to pass next edition that space marines can use different ammo is there guns.
But as far as new units, there are no new units for space marines, only space marines, its how you use them that might be new.
No new units need be added. However being the emperors finest shoud they not have access to other equipment ? For example suspensors for heavy weapons as in earlier editions of 40k? Da/SW/Ba already have enough special rules / unique equipment
Theres alot of background on Chapter formation and the way they fight/operate doesn't change much over time.
While Tau can find and incorporate a new race, Marines can't.
How would the 'fluff' work for a new Marine unit?
"Oh yes we've had these 'Victory Marine Squads' for ages? did no one ever mention them? really? oh well, they're in the 11th company, Chapters have always had 1100 men, you didn't know that either?"
A new vehicle being discovered from STC data is a possibility. SM haven't always had Land Speeders or Predator Anhialators but the Codex is fairly stable. The only real recent addition was Tyrannic War Veterans.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Death Watch will be in the Ordo Xenos book. I would like to see rules for pre-heresy armies. The Adeptus Mechanicus are supposed to be close to unlocking the blue prints for a tank that is inbetween the predator and the landraider so that could be a new addition.

I don't think the space marines need anything else. When I go to the GW website and look at units it always shocks me how sparse the other races are. Not counting special characters the space marines (vanilla) have 27 units (give or take a few for the same model with different configuration). Now compare that to say the Necrons who have about 10.
If GW's was going to add anything it would just be variants on the existing vehicles or even more special characters. I can see them adding another divergent codex with their own special models. I hope GW will take the effort and expand the other races before they waste time giving more models to the most diverse race in the game.

They'd have to find it. Like some piece of technology, figure out how it works. How would the 'fluff' work for a new Marine unit?
Like super powerarmour: 3+/5+ save.
Other veriations of tanks. Fluff wise it wouldnt be that hard.
