Just got a tip form a close friend of mine/GW employee: He told me the best way to start guard off is 2 boxes of karskin and a command squad. Just want your opinion thats all.
I think the best way to staart a imperial guard army is to get the codex, two boxes of infantry and a chimera. This will allow you to make a command squad a platoon and an armoured fist squad. Also it is a good idea to post some army lists before you start to construct your army so you can get some constructive criticism to make a competitive army.

well they would say that if they are a gw employee as they are about the most expensive guard models!
why not go for a battleforce and get youself another box of infantry and convert characters?. youll need a little more for a decent legal army but it gives you some good options at a decent price. that is unless you want too go all grenadier....
Also look out for the armoured fist squad box set which is a good deal.
if you dont like the above idea just get 1 box of kasrkin and two of infantry and convert thatll give you a legal army (youll desperately want heavy weapons as your next purchase though). (you can get the 1 team box and convert for other weapons aswell.) if you buy the single team box then itll be 4 quid more starting youll have an individual army and loads more men.!
hope that helps
Maybe karskin arent the best tybe of unit to start with as there not that much harder to kill then normal guardsmen but need more skill to use.
I would start out with a normal guard army with lots of squads with heavy weapons with just a few karskin squads so you can get a feel for all the units but still have a easy army to play with as a gunline army is easy to play on the tabletop.
Hey guys, Well my friend said the battleforce isn't a good way to start guard, after all you need a command squad and so on. And i do want to go an all grenadier army (all kasrkin's). looking to have 3 kasrkin troops all with chimeras, and have some sort of tanks? and sentinels.
Any of you guys know any good grenadier army list i can follow up on?
Well, Thanks for the input guys, Tim

I'd say that its your opinion. Don't go for what the redshirt says, he needs to meet a sales quota. A good one would be Two boxes of Cadians, and a chimera. That will start you out. Then buy some heavy weapons. Don't forget the codex. After that it will be easy.
Three Companies of the 26th Vinancium
143rd Airborne Badgers (99.9% done)
159th Corsair Rifles (35% done))
69th Armored Wall Busters (95% done)
Total 197 men, 12 tanks, 4 Heavy Artillery Pieces
I'd say, that if you really want to, go for it, just don't listen to him if he becomes too...persuasive...
Cheers, and good luck (I always like the good ol' troopers)
