How many points would you need before you would take terminators?
The reason why I'm asking is because I've got a terminator chaplin and assault terminators sitting in my case that never see any action. I'm playing 1500 point games but I can't seem to fit them in. I've seen people take terminators in 750 point games! I just can't seem to make them fit in.
So basically how many points would you play before you would take termies?
Black Templars 3000 points
Tau Empire 1750 points
Tyranids 1500 points
Hordes of Chaos *Coming soon*
You can take them at any size, really. It's just a matter of how useful they are.
Consider it similar to Chosen.
(ICs in Terminator Armour do count toward this limit)
- <750pts: 0 Terminators at most
- 750 - 1,500pts: 5-8 Terminators at most
- 1,500 - 2,250pts: 5-15 Terminators at most
- 2,250 - 3,000pts: 8-20 Terminators at most
- >3,000pts: Any number you see fit
That's my guide anyway.
Post your army lists in the ARMY LIST section! Not that hard!
Having said that, I usually only use Terminators in games of 2000 points or more. I just don't like to concentrate too many points in one Unit.
The strength of an SM army is the standard 15 point Marine, so I prefer to have as many of these as I can.
Shut up and play.
OK ignoring all the "any amount comments" as well as my deathwing, I find Termies are only really effective at 2000+points and even then I would be doing just as well with an equal amount of points on other units.
If you got the minis then aim for that, occasionaly with what you have, in 1500 points Cities of Death fights you may get value, simply out of shock factor
Everything you have been told is a lie!
basically, all we play is 1850pt games. I generally only take one squad of 5 (in a drop pod, of course).
If I really wanna be silly, I'll take my tac termies and a squad of assault termies, but I don't really find them too effective in these size games, I simply play them because I like the models so much.
Baby, when I'm the voice of reason, we've got problems!~artificerSomeone should stop

I have two squads of 6 in a 2000 point list. This is only because I am Imperial Fists and it is one of the reasons I started the army. In my 1850 List I have one 5 man squad and a master with claws. This squad is nice for killing a Land Raider but usually is instantly tageted by plasma guns and power weapons.
If you build a man a fire he will be warm for a night. If you set a man on fire he will be warm the rest of his life.
I have a 5 man assault terminators w/ attatched Techmarine in my 1500+ lists. They may get targeted earlier on, but it's amazing how many people put there troops in LoS of Dev Squads to try and take that unit out. It maybe a point sink, but I've enjoyed throwing them in.

I always take either 5 with 2 Assault Cannon accompanying a Chaplain or a Ravenwing Bike Squad.
Usualy the Terminators.
As they add both shooting and close combat potential they are vital to my army cohesion. It's only 6 at 1500 but I wouldn't consider adding any more.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Well, take them whenevger. I typically will have a squad of five-eight in most games (my games range between 1000-2000 points).
They are a good psyche for your opponent, and can reasonably provide fire support and assault. Not to mention the points per terminator is a bargain when you look at the benefits.
