Okay so the two dreads are actually not walking into a bar, they're walking into the field of battle to lay siege around them. One Dread is the standard CC configuration of AC CCW/Flamer, while the second Dread is the standard long range TLLC and ML. The Big Money Question is - which Dread is venerable? The CC Dread is gonna be walking up to the enemy, attracting alot of fire, possibly tossing it up with ICs and Monstrous Creatures. The long range Dread attracts the firepower of every tank out there. Which needs to be sturdier?
Stormcrows Chapter of the Space Marines
make the shooty dread Venerable, the tank hunter skill is sorta worth it. Really you should drop pod the CC one, so he's not exposed to fire while he slogs across the board
Take life seriously, its lethal.
That is a good question, and I'm sure you will hear as many different answer as people answering it.
IMO, it would be the Assault dread. The reason, for just a few more points then a hellfire dread you can get a Preditor, which has more fire-power and better armor.
it all comes down to personal preference. Personally, i would go with the Shooty one, as tank hunters is awesome. Furious charge is also good, you don't need +1 strength and initiative as much as tank hunters.
"In dedicato imperatum ultra articulo mortis"
uh duh, the shooty one. tank hunter all the way, a twin linked str 10 weapon is nothing to be laughed at, especially when it has an additional str 9 weapon as well. being a walker it can also move before it shoots. uh i think its obvious.
also the closer you are the more hits you are likely to take, and that means ou are more likely to fail them. the shooty one will be further aaway, and even if it gets hit its chanches of surviving are better. that makes no sense does it? oh well
I have this exact same configuration in my shooty list. I make the assaulty one venerable and do not take either tank hunters or furious charge. The reason is, I expect my assaulty dreadnought to die and if I take tank hunters on the shooty one it becomes more of the fire magnet. It usually take 3 turns of several units firing at the venerable dreadnought before the it dies (or 1 lucky turn depending on the dice). The other reason I don't take Tank Hunters is because I have plenty of other units that are anti-tank.

Personaly, I'd go shooty for the Tank Hunters, the combat one is safer in combat, and less of a range target.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Apparently, if it was that obvious, then he wouldn't be asking the question, would he?
I suggest you do a better job of evaluating your tone when offering replies in the future. Your post strikes me as extremely rude and condescending. While I can entertain the notion that you didn't mean to come off in that fashion, it doesn't change the fact that people construe your reply in a negative fashion.
So consider this a friendly warning to try to be more cordial with your replies.
As for myself - I wouldn't make either Venerable. Instead, I'd use the saved points to purchase the Assaulty one a Drop Pod.
I agree with Caluin, venerable dreadnoughts die the same as normal dreads, DP the cc dread so you can make its points back. Tthe only venerable dread worth taking is a space wolf one and as your not playing SW don't bother upgrading it to venerable.
