i what to start a IG army,
i will most probably have a super heavy tank in there, then men,
i dint know which ig to go with , steelleagion, cadian etc
Give some details, what sort of tactics do you like?
Massed infantry with tons of shooting.
Just plain Massed infantry, get as many boots as possible?
I suggest trying doctrines out first.
Take a look at the doctrines and restricted troops and point out to us which ones you like, that way we can help YOU decide. We can't decide for you.
Cadian all the way as they have modles for anything you would what where as steel leagion have no plasma gunners that you can bye and other things like that.
Super heavy tank? You can't use it if your opponent says no and it costs something like 120 pounds. Bye the battle force first and look at some of the guard army lists until you find one that you like the look of.
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
from a modeling persective, If you like metal go with vostoryans, Valhallens, or steel legion. If your rich, go with Elysian, Tallern, or New Death Korps of Krieg (there amazing). The last three were forgeworld. If you like plastic go with cadians. They are easy to convert, and come in increments of 20! I went with Cadians, because they have a good vibe. I didnt go with vostoryans because they are so un40k like. How can you have a army of millions of troops all armed with really ornamental weaponry and with poofy hats. Dont get me wrong, i love puffy hats, but not in warhammer... If you go tactic wise....We would need a little more info:yes:
"This sure ain't no pansy Eldar Armor, Son"
185th Cadian Armored Div.
"One Shot, One Kill"
Western Border Patrol of Athel Loren
I wouldn't go for steel legion, the models can be pretty hard to get your hands on as they're OOP.
If you're just looking for a regular table top army, go for the Cadian models. They're plentiful with a wide range of selection.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
I went with the cadian models just because everything else cost a completely unholy amount of dollars. If you get super heavy like a baneblade great, just don't expect to use it every day, most people can't handle something that destructive.
Rheagar fought nobly
Rheagar fought valiantly
Rheagar fought honorably
And Rheagar died.
If you want a tank theme (lots of tanks and minimum troops), then take vostroyans! They look SUPER COOL, and because you only need around 2-3 squads o' the troopers and a command squad, they wouldn't cost you a fortune (poor poor me...).

I'd suggest reading the top article of this forum.
Three Companies of the 26th Vinancium
143rd Airborne Badgers (99.9% done)
159th Corsair Rifles (35% done))
69th Armored Wall Busters (95% done)
Total 197 men, 12 tanks, 4 Heavy Artillery Pieces
Cadian are the most standard IG, so obviously they have the most standard super heavy thats fits their theme, the baneblade. Its rules are in the rule book and any other tank simply woulnt fit the theme of the army.
Steel legion's main superheavy vehicle is the stormblade, which is a lighter version of baneblade which has the plasma blastgun instead of demo and battle cannon or a Shadowsword(If I remember correctly) which excels in street fighting with tons of heavy bolters and a single main battle cannon.
Other super heavy's are secondary, there is one with a volcano cannon against titans but then why the hell would u need one? How many times a year do you face a titan? Once if ur lucky, in every other way this tank is pointless
This is pretty much it, if you plan a super heavy to be one of your tanks then you could do AC which would make the superheavy belong very well, but in any case prepare yourself for very high $$$
lastly, there are elite storm trooper regiments but they never take super heavies, they usually consist of airborne units like valkyries and vultures and relly on skill and training rather then numbers and big guns.
Take ur pick...
