I have been with guard a while now and was quite happy with my Cadians until the evil people at forgeworld started to design the Death Korps of Krieg. Now im hooked on them, but they turn out to be a very expensive army. So I thought that i will just do a combat patrol force with them. On this link here - http://uk.games-workshop.com/warhamm...40k40mins2.pdf on the last page Paul Bridges does not seem to have a HQ leading his force but a single commissar.. Is this legal? Can you really have combat patrol forces led by an advisor? I am new to combat patrol and my friends who have some combat patrol forces have no idea either (They collect Space Marines and Tau) Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
PS. On this site here... Imperial Guard he uses an armoured fist squad as his only troop selection. Can he do that? Doesnt the rule 'One armoured fist unit for every infantry platoon' taken from the codex apply here?

Just looked at your link, and I think page one answers your question about the Commissar.
" As you might not pick an HQ choice, the patrol should still have a commander who gives orders and against which leadership tests are made. This, of course would be the most senior ranking figure."
Ref: Armoured fist choice. The rules of Engagment:Army limitations, says:
" you must have one troops choice. You may spend remaining points from anywhere in the codex".
Hope this helps.
Combat Patrol has other demands for your army to be legal, for instance, the only mandatory FOC choice you need to field is one troop. Also, units choices that need another choice first before they can be fielded(such as an armoured fist squad needing an infantry platoon) do not need this first FOC choice in order to be fielded.
Notice also that his hellhound only costs 60 points. The article was written a long time ago with outdated army lists! You can take an advisor who will end up as the patrol leader however he still has to be attatched to the highest ranking mmber of your patrol. as for the single troops choice all requisites are gone, try just taking a five man grenadier choice then you have most of your points to spend elsewhere!
AF squads are one of the best choices though. they have the best tank available in combat patrol (if you ignore tau lol) and you only need one squad. with the changes on restrictions it does mean that you can field 100 conscripts and thats it, (not that itd do you much good!)
hope this helps
