So, it sounds like I am gonna get a Battleforce for Christmas. Ive got some ideas as to how to use them effectively, but would like input. The combat squad would become a 6-man Dev squad, with 3 missile launchers. Naturally, Id want another Assault Squad, as fielding 5 is a bad idea. Id like to field two, maybe even three 6-man Tactical Squads, with Lascannons and Plasma guns. Since I already have one Tactical Squad, I can pretty much do this model-wise. The Rhino would be converted to a Whirlwind. Id have to buy an HQ, prolly be a Captain. Not sure what to do with the Scouts though, one of my bigger questions. Since I bought two used bikes and a Dreadnought, finishing the bikes would be good. All put together, this'd be a sizable force. Thoughts?
IMO, having one Assault Squad dangling out there isn't the best idea either since your Tactical guys are pretty much shooty & not so assault-y. Getting the Bikes & the Assault Squad to assault the same things - probably easier to finish off opponents this way (won't leave the Bikes hanging out to dry if they get bogged down in cc). Scouts can also contribute to this in a CC configuration.
Also, your 6-man Tactical Squads aren't exactly good in assault situations... another reason to hold cc Scouts near your lines to charge or counter-charge oncoming assault units. Throw a Heavy Bolter onto the Scouts to provide a minimum of fire support, and then throw the Scouts forward into assault as necessary to keep the shooty Tactical Squads clean or bail them out of danger.
Yea, thats why I think I am gonna kit my Dread to be a melee fighter. AC, HF, and drop pod.
