Hello boys and girls of Lib Online,
My brother and I are just taking up WH40K and I've opted for a Witch Hunter army (I've read quite alot of this forum over the last couple of days , and it appears WH's arn't the most nooby friendly! nothing like jumping in at the deep end!)
I've already bought a few blisters (a SOB boxed set, Inq Storm Troopers boxed set, Pentinent Engine, Inquisitor and a Deathcult blister).
This was all mainly based on the aesthetic appearances of the Witch Hunters, however I would like to turn them into a functional army (Christmas presents beckon!)
I would like to start by amassing a 1000Pt Army, and I've come up with the following list, based partly on what I can gleam functions ok, and part on the way they look (I'm VAIN ALRIGHT!)
Cannoness (Cloak of aspira, mantel of ophelia, jump pack, eviscerator) = 125pts
Basically, I want her to jump around where safe to do so, tearing up lesser mortals with her Eviscerator of holy righteousness
Priest (carapace armour, plasma pistol, power weapon) = 70pts
Evesor Assassin 95pts
(sounds by all accounts like a kickass unit judging by what I have read!)
Inquisitor 20 pts
9 Battle Sisters with 1 Veteran superior with power wep. 1 * flamer & 1* storm bolter 146pts
10IST (one of which vet) 1 Grenade launcher 1 flamer = 125pts
Dominions 6 (One of which vet superior) 4* storm bolter , frag grenades
Mounted in incinerator (+extra armour + pintle mounted storm bolter) = 198pts total
Exorcist (+ extra armour) 140pts
Pentinent Engine 80 Pts
Total 999 Points
30 units/3 vehicles
The dominions running around with 198pts worth of equipment
70pts for a priest also bothers me (I need the little blighter so I can use my pentinent engine) - How do I use him? Should he be accompanying a sq of my troops?
Also the Inquisitor, as it is she is base, with nothing upgraded - This somehow doesn't feel right, I am of the belief that when a Inquisitor takes to the field of battle, he/she would probably be tooled up
Finally (I know this post is starting to get long..so thankyou for your patience...those who made it this far!) My younger brother will be taking up in arms as the Eldar (heathenous witches if you ask me!) And I'm concerned how my force will fair versus him (he's equally inexperienced btw). I know for instance he will want at least 2 wraithlords, as he is of the opinion they are made of win! How hard will it be for me to take out these blighters with the list above?
Also a major question I have, How do i go about having a Cannoness who dual wields an Eviscerator? I can't see how I can get the model on the GW site (Games Workshop Online Store — Sisters of Battle Canoness to do so.

I think you need more anti-vehicular firepower and more basic troops. You have a lot of neat gadgets in a small list, and that's probably gonna hurt you.
The Priest is really expensive for what you get. I'd hold off on him and the Penetent Engine for a while...bulk out your list with more Battle Sisters or Stormtroopers. Mounting a unit in a Rhino or Chimera will give you much better mobility.
Seraphim are a great unit and worth looking at too.
I question your use of Storm Bolters as special weapons...think about swapping in some Meltaguns. Great against marines, and your only real anti-vehicle option for troops units. And I personally think no Sisters unit is complete without a flamer. It's INSANE how many hits those things can get, and with Divine Guidance, they even hurt marines!
For shooting power, try a larger units rather than Storm Bolters. Bigger unit = more wounds, and those are wounds with a 3+ save for a quite low point cost.
I had this post nearly completely typed out, and then I lost it..including my numbers *grumbles* I think i can remember it.
REVISED 1k Pt Army! Still gadgety but with slightly more troops!
Mantel of Ophelia
Cloak of St. Aspira
Elites (115 Pts)
Troops (460 Pts)
9 Battle Sisters
1 Vet Sup
2 * Plasma Gun
2 * Plasma Gun
Heavy Support (300 Pts)
1 Vet Superior
4* Heavy Bolter
Now I'm completely devoid of Fast Attack - Partly down to my unresistable urge to field a Eversor. I'm pretty sure the reason it looks quite gadgety is because I am new, Once the urge for quirkiness over functionality leaves me all will be well.. Until then I would like the Cannoness and Eversor to stay
If anyone can give me tips on both of the units that would be super smashing great. Including possible models to use to make the Eviscerator/Cannoness Conversion.
Also, this post is looking distinctly Army list-ish...Can a mod move it to the other forum?
Drop the Vets from your IST - with no gear on them, I see no need for the

Do you have any intention of kitting the Inquisitor, or is he there just for the assassin?
Yeah the Inq is there pretty much at the moment solely so I can run a Assassin.
However is it a character that would do well kitted out? As I stated I am new and not totally 'with it' as far as psych powers are concerned. What would work well on him against a Eldar force incorporating wraithguard/lord?
Also Smok I see what you mean, as it stands the Vet offers me no benefits on the IST squads, I was considering using auspex on them in order to shoot at infiltrating Rangers/Scorpions, however I couldn't find the extra 4 pts for them !
Seems I have a hell of a lot to learn ahead of me, but i'm sure its like this for all newcomers to WH.
Does anyone think there is room to fit 2 exorcists in a 1k pt army? or is that overload.
Same cannoness (125pt)
Three Squads of (600pt total)
9 Battle Sisters
1 Vet Sup
2 * Exorcist (one with extra arm)
Would that list be more or less effective than the previous, it certainly seems more mobile, and the dual exorcist would surely give me some sweet firepower?

as far as a priest goes the best use for him would be to arm with an evc and accompany a squad of 7 IST armed with 2 melta's and put them in a chimera or rhino
as far as sisters squads go i find that they work best in one of two capcities
1) vet ss w/ bolter & book of st lucious 1 sister w/ imagfier 1 sister w/ melta 1 sister w/ hvy flamer mounted in a rhino w/ extra armour and smoke
2) vet ss w/ strom bolter 2 sisters w/ strom bolter 7 sisters w/ bolters.
i would have to say that 2 exorcist in 1k is a bit much as they are not effecient at taking out hordes. also in regards to exorcist's try to fit a pintle strom bolter on them because of the way scoring works( you need to blow both weapons off or immobolize it to prevent it from scoring)
if you really want a 2nd heavy in 1k try a squad of retributers with 4 heavy bolters and a vet ss w/ bolter.
hope this helps

I like the list with the Exorcists in my Experiences they if you get a good number of shots off can deal with a bunch of troops maybe not a horde of Tyranids but they cand deal fairly well. And of course they should be able to tear up Wraiths you out range them and if they take a AT gun such as Bright Lance usually will get more shots. Also you have a nice number of sisters but maybe drop the flamer and get a Melta gun and keep Hev. flamer because they are Eldar so I assume there will be tanks and the Hev. flamer is more than enough anti troop. Also over all meltas work pretty nicely for killing marines and other MEQ forces.
Of course you could drop an Exo and get more sisters it really depends on who youy play with and thier play style on how many Exo's you want to take but at least include one and if you are only playing against an Eldar force I would take 2 Exos
The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.
Are you those people?
try taking litanies of faith with your HQ it will allow you to get 1 more faith point and use it with out fear of failing. May t oget a 3+ invul. while tank hunting
For your inquisitor, take 3 warriors (the servitor kind) w/heavy bolters, and the Inquisitor with a stormbolter (mayhaps w/psycannon bolts).
Viola, la delight et la bolter huver! (pardon my horrible francais).
That right there is a MAJOR anti-eldar...set up. Kills wraithlords...troops (by the dozen) and most aspect warriors!!
Oh, and welcome to LO, enjoy your flight....errr....stay...:shifty:
