For a long time, I used to view bikes with disdain. Their high points cost and low model count in each squad made them look ineffective and worthless. Now though, I believe bikes are the best units in the game. Just read Chaosbrynns bike tactica. They offer a bewildering array of tactical options and can be fitted for most (if not all) jobs.
A couple things I have to explore are what opinions do people have of bikes, where I can find good quality cheap bikes, and what other tactics do you guys have
Some tactics that I made up mainly have to do with raven guard and imperial fists.
Raven Guard tactic. For games of 1500 points and above.
Units involved: Shrike and wing, scout bikes, scouts
Execution: Shrike and wing infiltrate into opponents lines. Scout bikes rush up with scout move. First turn, scout bikes move up and Shrikes pounces on targets. Scout bikers get into assault. Scouts infiltrated in lay down suppressive fire with heavy bolters and missile launchers. Most of enemy infantry destroyed.
On Turn 2, drop pods come in and hit the enemy with bolters and meltaguns or dreadnaught. Assault squads get into assault. Maybe equip bikes with teleport homer and send in terminator squad.
Imperial fists tactic. For games of 2000 points and above.
Units involved: Captain Lysander, bikes, lots of terminators
Execution: Turn one, bikes come around flank and hide behind cover.
Turn 2, bikes equipped with teleport homers, terminators teleport in. All terminator squads equipped with AC's. Drop pods come in with tac squads.
For other tactics, read Chaosbrynns SM bike tactica.
Right now, Im looking for cheap, boxed bike squads. Does anyone know where I can get some of these? I looked on ebay and found some pretty good deals but ebay is kind of sketchy. Any other websites you guys know of? GW overprices them by 15-20 bucks. Its ridiculous.
Anyway, what suggestions or comments do you guys have? What are your views on bikes?
I agree! I recently decided that I just HAD to have a unit of Blood Claw Bikers for my wolves. Anyway, it comes down to 262 pts for 8 bikers, 2 of which have power fists. I plan on turboboosting them to a table edge in a rather threatening position, and then hopefully they will cause my oponents enough worry that they don't waste time shooting all my other units.
I have always liked bikes, but I don't really have a grasp on handling them yet, but a friend if mine brought up this fact;
5 scout bikes, vet w/ pf, scout move , Rage ( I play Blood angels), normal move, and then charge = 30 to 36 inchs. In the games we play that= 1st turn close combat.
5 scout bikes, vet w/ pf, scout move, rage, turbo boost = redeploying/ rushing 36 to 42 inches.
seem worth it to me......

Has anyone considered an all bike army? It would consist of about 20 bikes in 1000 point list or about 30 bikes if with scout bikes. Are these effective? Has anyone had any experience with them?
I've seen some almost all biker armies. They do okay but they require a lot of finesse. Also don't make scout bikes your main choice. They just don't take hits like the normal bikers do, and every biker counts big time. I've also seen that some static armies can screw them up and also swarm armies can be pain, especially ork or nid swarm. You just won't kill enough of them sometimes.
Sorry to point this out to the scout bike affectionados, but the thing about the Scout move is...
you gotta do the Scout thingy BEFORE rolling for turns. So if you scout them out 12" all would be fine if you win 1st turn and you'd get a real cool 1st turn assault, but if you lose that dice roll they WILL get shot to shreds. Don't try this against Tau - it's very risky. T5 4+ Sv is nothing to Pulse weps and battlesuits. (plasma + missile pod XV8 suits = nightmare, esp. without turbo-boost save).
hope i helped =)
I love Attack Bikes. I think pound for pound they are much better then the standard Land Speeder. They don't have the mobility that the Speeders do, but the fire output is more, and the survivability is MUCH MORE. I've used them to completely annihilate Guardians squads, as well as serious casualties against tyranids. They've also gotten me first turn wipe outs of Obliterators when kitted with Multi-Meltas.
Regular bikes on the other hand have always and forever been complete and total failure for me. I've had them wiped out time and time again, and I can't even remember a time where they even inflicted casualties. I've used them as shock troops, objective grabers, and even counter assualt units. Nothing has ever worked. The sheer point cost to make them effectively sized is just to much.
IC's on Bike, I've had much better success. Running a Librarian, or Chaplain around on a bike, I've been able to get around terrain and into the rear of the enemy. I usually bring this against shooty armies, especially the Tau, and have had pretty good success with it against Necrons as well. Had a Lib on a bike force a Necron army to phase out when he slammed into a warrior squad.
I probably will never take a standard bike squad again, but I'm sure I'll continue to use IC's and Attack Bikes.

Most people that dislike bikes simply use them wrong. You can't use bike defensively; they are just to fragile! You should be turbo boosting to you're target and get stuck in there. If you go tankhunting bikes are a great choice.
My Tankhunting Squad choice:
4 Space Marine Bikers
--> 2 Meltaguns
Thats just 180 pts. for a LOT of tankbusting power. You should always use cover wisely or in other words position yourself behind the tank you're busting. It will save you often!
All bikes are very effective. Great tank hunting and great MEQ hunting. Ok assault. Mostly you want to move and out shoot everyone.
You can get two plasma guns and a plasma pistol in a three man squad. Not too expensive. I take maxed out squads with all melta for tanks and plasma HB for everything else. It takes some getting used to but it is an excellent army.
