I am interested in Deathwatch but am not sure how to use them or if they are good. Can someone please post Deathwatch tips. Which options are good which are bad... and how to use your deathwatch unit....
Thanks very much
First, it'd probably be nice to have the Deathwatch rules: Deathwatch Rules
To start, Deathwatch Space Marines aren't cheap. Being veterans, they're going to cost more than the average marine. Keep that in mind.
Now, weapons choices. It's very tempting to kit out the kill-team with all sorts of special weapons and stuff like that. I say forget it. The true strength of the squad lies within their special ammunition.
Stalker Shells: Turns your bolter into a sniper rifle. This is okay, but I'd rather leave that duty up to the cheaper scouts. But, if you decide to take these, then you should plan on a static squad that doesn't do much up front.
Metal Storm Ammunition: Comparable to the shotgun, but a slightly longer range. Not very effective for strength, but does allow for shooting and assault, if that's what you want.
Inferno Bolts: This is probably the best set of ammunition. These allow you to re-roll to wound rolls, which is very nice considering alot of high toughness models out there. I used these against Bloodletters and decimated them. Very nice.
Kraken Bolts: These have improved range and lower AP, but that's it, not much special
Hellfire Heavy Bolters: These give you the option to make your Heavy Bolter an assault weapon, at a range sacrifice. Standing still turns the Heavy bolter into a single shot blast shooter.
The best kit I've found while playing with the Deathwatch is the Inferno Bolts with two Hellfire Heavy Bolters. This squad is deadly on the move, and with the True Grit Special Skill, they can hold their own in CC.
So, rapid fire away, and let the opponent charge you. You'll punish them for making that move.
I agree with everything Adrian has said, but would like to add the following.
1) upgrade your leader to a librarian, and give him Fear of the Dark.
2) drop pod the whole lot of them. Nothing like having an ULTRA-DEADLY squad of marines smash down into enemy lines, having the librarian "FEAR" everyone, then the heavy bolters shoot up anyone who didn't have their morale broken.
I've found that a DW squad as an HQ makes a deadly shock troop squad (even if they are CRAZY expensive when kitted up). I've even had them gun down a whole squad of necron destroyers and then blow up the monolith the next turn with their meltabombs. THAT was a good game :w00t:
Baby, when I'm the voice of reason, we've got problems!~artificerSomeone should stop

The stuff I gave is for a kill team
Use it as you wish.
Any suggestions on how to model these guys? I'd like to use them but i dont want to use standard tac marines painted black thanks!

Also.. if you have any heads and bits from different chapters, maybe theme your squad a bit. You could have a space wolf long fang wielding the heavy bolter, or a robed\hooded dark angel librarian. It's a chance to combine imagery from many different chapters to make a really unique looking squad, so it might be fun to make the most of it.
