Ok only recently have I bothered to really look at the assassins as to past opost about how they are worth to many points and they dont do very much. LEts look into how Effective the vindicare assasin is. I ve only used it in 2 games so far after only recently rising above my depression on how the dh are hard to use.
Againts the dark eldar. Know the damn archon and his retinue of stupid icubi?/
Remeber that annoying +2 inv save he has. Shield break it and its no more. Remeber once his shield fails to stop a wound its lost. Also with turbo penetrae you can take out a raider with some luck and even tak out some of those wyches with that. Or you can take out that lond warrior with his annoying dark lance and stuff.
Chaos and space marines just take out heavy weapon carriers and that occasional tooled up sargeant or aspiring champion. Never I repeat never waste shot on an Hq unless its worth it( 1 wound left) or its a last ditch effort( has 2 wounds and about to charge yor weakened grey knights, hey why not take a chance with a turbo shot)
Eldar just use a shield breaker round againts the farseer and his retinue or do a turbo shot againts those annoying wraithlords, hey a chance of getting off with 2 wounds a turn on that thing is a miracle that can't be ignored.
Tyranids just shoot synapse creatures and the ocational tyrant. Becarful or lictors on this as you usually have you vindicar in cover and thats where they hide.
Orks i havnt seen there codex so no tips there except for some heavy weapons and stuff.
Also just one more thing when your taking a shot againts something that only has one wound always take the hellfire shot as it allows for wounds on 2+ instead of the 4+ that will half the time fail.( I hated when my assasin kept failing to wound a ethereal in my friends tua army, 3 free shots, all landed on 3's!!! for wounding)
I don't think that Vindicare's are that useful at all, the only time it could be useful is for the before mentioned want to take out a select member of an oncoming squad such as a heavy member. And since you only get one of each of the ammo choices they really don't make up their worth.
For the DE lord, you just need to either take psybolts for your justicars, ect or you take some psycannons. Both will go thru the invn save, the cannon will insta kill him.
They are nice for taking out high toughness units but even then they are only wounding half the time, it seems that they almost never make up their points as opposed to an eversor or a callidus.
As well, our Inquisitors can take needle weapons, these will found on a 4+ against all toughness, although they are very short range (12") so they could help by taking a wound off before they fall into CC with your guys. And even in CC Inquisitors can take digital weapons that will, should the Inquisitor assualt in CC, will wound on a 4+ regardless of toughness, so if you played it right you could have taken two wounds off that hightoughness enemy in a single turn, not to mention all the other fire you could throw at him.
