I was given a Command Squad boxed set for Christmas, and just thinking of best way to equip the unit. I have a Raven Guard army and used to use Shrike as my commander, but to be honest in a 2000 game he is quite expensive. So I've now got a commander together with that snazzy 5-man command squad.
So, what options are recommended? I've already decided on the Apothecary, but what about the Emperor's Champion? I'm considering making the squad quite pro-assault (by giving them Infiltrate as well) and then maybe adding a plasma gun or melta gun.
What about mixing up the bolt pistol and CC/ bolt gun combinations? the box art shows that, and I admit it actually looks quite good, but I'm a bit sceptical about doing so. I guess it certainly adds to the multi-task idea of such a squad.
Anyway, just fishing for some ideas - thanks in advance for any tips
If you are infiltrating them use all BP & CCW. Such a small squad will not have as much effect that you might desire, make sure there is another unit infiltrating with them.
Bolters work good with the apothecary; stay put and shoot. You can use him to with the command squad as well as marines from another unit, however, this works best when the units are stationary. This would mean arming your command squad with long range heavy weapons; something not characteristic of Raven Guard.
