Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was planning on taking a squad of three attack bikes to a 1850 tourney, but I want to know how others experinces with them are. Are they worth the points? I plan to use three with multimeltas as a fast tank hunting unit. Is this a good Idea or not?

generally speaking it is best to take a group of normal bikes and attach one attack bike to them. The reason for this (in my mind at least) is that since they can still be instant killed by str 8+ weapons that is what they will be targeted with and you will lose out on that additional wound. With the regular bike squadron 2 regular meltas do the trick quite nice, since getting within 6" isn't a problem with such a fast moving unit. I like to just add a regular attack bike for a some extra fire power, and if they do take a wound from weaker weapons I put the wound on the attack bike so i don't lose any effectiveness.
Overall bikes are really great if used properly.
NOTE: When you bust a tank you want to stand on a side of the tank that gives you cover from the opponents other forces. You might get another go at something big instead of using them as a one-shot-deal. (which isn't necesarily bad, but still...)
another thing to note is that they are a good unit to put a power fist on (really what isn't?). If you use a max or near max squad number, then you can shoot up a unit sufficently and then charge them to clean them up. I've actually done this to a lone chaos marine squad and done really well. That toughness 5 is a godsend.
Yeah for tank hunting 4 bikes (with 2 meltaguns) is probably the way to go. But, I think that assault bikes are better when equipped with heavy bolters. They get to shoot the HBs and their TLBolters every turn, so can really destroy most infantry units and only cost 150 points.
I play a Anti-Infantry squad with two Flamers and a Heavy bolter Attack bike and an Anti-armor squad with two Meltas and a Multi melta Attack bike. Both Attack bikes work wonderfully with those squads, better than them being on their own.
In my opinion Attack bikes in squads of their own are too fragile and don't pack enough punch as their mixed bretheren.
