Well I have had other space marine armies and I have got really sick of the scheme because they never satisfied me. So thanks to the thread posted by the member who posted his scheme and army I have these questions to ask.
What colors are the Luna Wolves? And in this is there a different color similar to the white to make the scheme a little darker so it is not as bright?
Do you have to use some of the chaos heads to make them or can I just use space marines?
Hey toon, glad to hear someone else is enterested in the LW, after all they are the best legion IMHO!
According to the Index Astartes article in an old white dwarf, the LW wore very light grey armour with black trim. I have tried to stay as close to this as poss.
To paint them i first undercoat them with a non-GW primer which is just a tad lighter than Codex Grey, i cant remember the actual product used but i will find out and post it. I then paint most of the armour with a mix of white and codex grey, leaving the primer in the recesses to give shading. To further highlight i then mix even more white with codex grey so its only very slightly grey, and paint this around the edges of the armour.
Lastly a thin line of pure skull white is painted around the very edges and raised areas such as the head and top of the back pack.
In actual real life the marines arent as light as they appear in the pic, but if u wanted to keep them darker u could either leave out the last hilights, or start from a black base coat and do Black-Codex Grey- Skull white mixed with codex grey for a highlight.
About the heads u dont have to use chaos heads, the Black templar sprue has a few MK4 heads u can use with very little effort, also the beakie helmet needs no alteration.
I would advise swaying away form using the standard SM head with the grill (MK7) as these helmets were not around before the heresy. But if ur not a stickler for the fluff them by all means go for it.
Hope this helps and if u need any more advice please dont hesitate to ask!
im interested in pre-heresy parts to supplement my army. where did you get all ur stuff and about how much did it cost (i live in the US).
Hey again, to answer ur question bladeofdeath, i got alot of my bits from battlewagon bits, a US website for random plastic bits.
Some of the items are well overpriced such as the studded shoulder pads, hence why i made mine using PVA glue. But alot of the items are reasonable, and also if u are smart u can pick up a few good deals on Ebay.
Hope this helps!
you don't even need glue to make the studs. The back of a brush and some old thick paint makes perfect dots/studs.
Sounds good man, i would probably have used fortress grey too, but i dont have any so mixing was done instead. I look forward to pics!
hey, was just searching the forum for luna wolves and i noticed some one was asking a good way to paint white armor.
the way i like to do it is start with codex grey as a base, then layer on fortress grey. after that, i layer on space wolves grey. after that, i layer on white. the reason i use space wolves grey is becuase one guy at my gaming store explained to me that white looks really good with a light blue-ish tint, and the result looks quite good.
