I have a quick little question! I play a 1500 point line guard shooty army, lots of heavy weapons and two squads of veterns to drop down behind enemy lines. Doctrines are: Iron Discipline, Veterans, Cameoline, Conscripts, and Drop Troops. The main reason of the conscripts was to just try to hold up an enemy unit in close combat (I have 20 of them). However! I was wondering if it might be maybe more beneficial to have a unit of 10 rough riders with hunting lances, instead of the conscripts. The reason I ask is because in about half the games I have played, my opponent has just ignored the conscripts, then they have to foot slog it to get into action. On the other hand, rough riders with their fleet and 12" charge range might be able to get there a bit faster.
Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.
Additionaly, I don't like how the rough riders look, so I was thinking of doing something different. My army has a slight feral feel to it (tiger theme), and I was thinking about purchasing wolf mounts (the sprues from goblin wolf riders) and glade guard from the Wood Elves. The riders would then be human-esque and have a slight feral feel while riding the wolves. I just don't know if the Elf mounted models would fit on the wolves. Do you think that would look interesting, or rather strange?
Thanks again for any advice!
Rough riders are better used as counter assault units, they have there good times and bad, just depends on how you use them.Conscripts are alright, there just fodder though,he would ignore them becasue he doesnt want to get tangeled up in cc with them and pretty muc hthey cant shoot for crap either, you would need more I think to make them effective(like another ten or twenty or so). I would say proxy the rough riders before you use them.
Chief, i dont use rough riders, but always wanted to convert some for my mordian iron guard. i also use a static gunline, but also lots of grenade launchers and close order drill/ die hards....
the way i see it, if i can throw a whole platoon of guard for a specific purpose, all of them dying for my cause, then i can readily see myself using a guard-unit-point-equivilent rough rider squad to decimate a HQ unit/model or problem unit that i'm not confident i can entirely shoot to pieces under dire circumstances in one go, and still cruise into the distance to claim that table quarter. gold. =P
do, do try some RR proxies.

Consider the roughrider,
dynamite on a stick
thats why i use them at least
In the night,
armed with lasguns,
and the light of the emporer,
they stood tall,
in the twilight,
the galaxy burns,
a cunning tribute,
to the god of man,
all hail the Emperer!
Thanks everyone! Greatly appreciate your insight!
