I just got the new space marine codex (i collect ultramarines) and i saw the honor guard entree. If i am not mistaken, for 30 points you could have an honor guard model replace the sergeant in a tactical, devi or some other squad. well, he has better attack then a normal sergeant, has termi honors, and also can get stuff from the armory. so instead of upgrading a sergeant to a vet. why not just get an honor guard dude?
Actually, for use in another squad, the 30 points is an upgrade, not the cost of the whole model, so you must pay for the original SM in the first place. Also, most people want to have Power Fists, so for the same price, you can upgrade a SM Veteran to have T. Honours and a Power Fist, instead of upgrading them to have the Power Weapon variant. The Honour Guard isn't much better, and you pay less for an SM Vet. with Power Weapon and T. Honours.
Yeah but hell do they look good and to actually have a squad led by one is nice
plus a normal Veteran sergean t with the same exact equipment would cost 48pts, an honour guard only cost (technically with marine he replaces included) 45pts now I would take him.
In most cases, a Power Fist is better than a Power Weapon, in the case of an upgraded squad character. Krak grenades are redundant, as are purity seals, really.
If he has a Power Fist, frags are also redundant, so as opposed to the Honour Guard, I'd rather take the Power Fisted Sergeant which is, ultimately, the exact same amount of points but tactically more flexible.
I respect the opinion of a fist being better, but I would take the Honor Guard over that option purely based on looks alone
and the tone of how you said it was terrible, really critical and kinda mean (no I`m not going to run crying) it just might get rid of some new members is all, so tone it down over a not so serious subject
Oh and Valerian, yeah thats a good option but as you say kinda exspensive ain`t it lol, but I reckon it might be nice maybe for devvies just in case, or a veteran unit maybe.
Not to mention, you could also attempt to convert the Power Weapon arm into a Power Fist with a simple arm swap, letting you keep the looks and run around with a Power Fist, etc.
Just throwing the idea out there.
Maybe it's the lack of smiley faces that's throwing you off? *blink*
i am thinking about making my command squad (2nd ultramarine company) a commander with lightining claw, plasma pistol, attach to an assault squad without jump packs (basicly close combat tactical squad) and then have the serge a vet with a power fist and exchange one of the marines for an honor guard unit. then stick um in a drop pod and send them out. the rest of the army will be fire support , tanks and tactical squads. will this work and can i put assault squads with out jump packs into a rhino? they are just like the normal guys, just outfitted differently.
I wouldn't recommend giving your Commander a Lightning Claw/Pistol combination, as he doesn't get the +1 attack if he does. He can only get that attack, when using a Lightning Claw, when he has twin claws equipped.
As for the rest of your idea, I'm kind of confused.
Are you attaching him to an Assault Squad? Are you giving the members of his Command Squad CCW/BP? Are you putting them in a Drop Pod, or a Rhino?
