Welcome to Librarium Online!
i'm putting together a 1000 pt list. all the other stuff is definite, but i'm not sure about the HQ. should it be a chappie or captain? it will probably end up with the melta maries to help in assault, which probably suggests a chaplain. heres what else is in the list:
dread with extra armour,
2 lots of six marines with a plasma cannon each,
8 scouts with sniper rifles, and a heavy bolter,
6 marines with a melta gun,
speeder with multi melta,
3 bikes, 2melta guns,
to fit in the chaplain, i would have to drop a scout. so which would be better, captain or chaplain?
In that army I would have to say a captain. A chaplian is a waste if you're not attaching him to an assault squad of some kind.
You could stick him on a bike and attach him to the bike squad but that gets expensive.

I would definatley agree stick with the captain not only does he increase all of your squads leadership but a chaplin does need a squad geared to assault to get the very best out of him.
Your replies have also helped me decide what HQ to select for my new Red Templars.
Previously I had used them only as a conscripted force under Inquisitor Lord Karamazov.

In small games like 500pts or so I would say the chaplin. But in a game with no assault unit I wouldnt take it. As above, take the captain, if you want to keep him cheap just give him a power weapon and bolt pistol along with terminator honors(You could due without the terminator honors as well though too).
i have to take termie honours, i'm DA.
But if you have to drop the scout squad and just equip him to one of your squads I would just go with the captin. He seems to be the best for your list.
With no assault Marines, Id go with the Captain. The 10 Ld can really help.
