So I tried again, only to get my butt handed to me again. The firt was once again by the Imperial Guard. With two Leman Russ Battle Tanks and a Basilisk, the sheer weight of the ordinance weapons ko'ed me. Though I did approach the lines, with his doctrines of Sharpshooters and Carapace armour, my Marines could do nothing, and again succumbed to the sheer weight of lasgun fire. Add in some heavy weapons, and an Inquisitor with a bodyguard with a plasma cannon, and my Marines lost their armor save.
The other loss was from the Blood Angels. With his roughly 10-man Death Company, my commander and his squad succumbed to the wrath of the Chaplain and Furious Charge. With his 10-man Honor Guard with 9 power weapons and two Powerfists on his Sergeant and Librarian, with Furious Charge, my own Assault Squad could not retialiate. Those two squads Massacred into other squads, ko'ing them. Though my Commander did kill a few of the Death Company, since they are free, he didnt make his points back.
So yeah.....im gonna go ahead and cry now.......
okay well i am kinda confused on the pointe of this thread but if you want help why don't you post your list. As for the game agains blood angels that command squad would have cost around 400 points so if you focused some aloot of shooting on that you could destroy a large chunk of his army.
Well, the only thing I can offer is that against the IG player, did you use cover correctly against the ordnance? Plus, I'd have gotten into assault as fast as possible, that way you couldn't fall under the weight of all the ordnance, as they couldn't hit you. Also, as the guardsmen would be most likely packed in, you should've been able to consolidate from combat to combat.
Then with long range shooters, hide in cover and pummel the tanks.
Against the Blood Angels, I would've stayed back and opted to rapid fire until his units got close enough for assault range, which you would use to assault his forces, and deny the furious charge. Simple enough.
Make sense to you?
Facing 2x Leman Russ & 1x Basilisk or Blood Angels w/Death Company plus Land Raider... at 1000 pts (!)... that's pretty bad odds for someone who is using a basic/growing Space Marine list (2x full Tactical Squad with Missile Launchers being the backbone of the army).
Poor sportsmanship on his opponents' part, IMO. No reason to frustrate/humiliate someone when the outcomes are so stacked in your favor.
Oh, thanks for the link.
I'll get looking at that.
I'm sorry about my assuming, I didn't know the whole situation, sorry.
Coffee tables are pretty small. So most likely you will be able to shoot across it or almost across it with a heavy bolter. Maybe a devastator squad with them would do. Yes I know the blood angels special rules because I got the dex. But it is worth a shot that would be 12 shots on them in one turn. That should be at least two guys down from the squad. Then you got other stuff to shoot him with also.
I play guard!
Don't take the guard head on in firefight as your weapons will not hurt there leman russ tanks as there front armour is just to hard to penetrate. At 1000 points in order for your guard opponent to take 3 tanks in 1000 points it sould mean that he has only 4 infantry squads with 3 command squads. This means it will be easy to get to his tanks with assault squads with powerfists or metla bombs.
Tie up his forward units with scouts to block line of sight by tieing up his infantry squads, this also makes it easier for your assault squads to jump behind cover in order to close on his tanks. Landspeeders can destroy a squad per turn bu making them fail there Ld roll and provide a free turn as the enemy shoot it down. Also try to get side shots at the leman russ tanks as the assault cannon can really cause some damage to its side armour.
Having 3 tanks in 1000 points means that he will not have a full lode out of plasma and heavy weapons so if you tie up his men and go for his tanks his army will fold faster then a super model in a strong wind.
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
