I see no point in a vanquisher in AC. Here's why:
If you are facing Eldar the max AV you will face is 13 (from memory) so lascannons, missile launchers, Melta and autocannons will do just fine. Besides, any eldar player will move their skimmers more tyhan 6" meaning we can only get glancings. So the game is lots and lots of glancing hits.
And when facing the other uber-anti AC list, Necrons, a Vanquisher is as useless as a battlecannon Vs the monolith because it does not get the extra D6 penetration vs monoliths!
Finally, the ridiculous cost: The vanquisher has to be an elite or command choice, so with extra armor the vanquisher is going to be at least 250pts.
Iy might go alright against certain opposition, but I only ever seem to play Eldar, Tau and Necrons, so it seems Vanquishers are hopeless.

And you can just get anti-tank shells for your standard leman russ tanks so all you lose really is the range of the Vanquisher cannon but who needs a extra 12" or so range?
Oh yeah we take them because they look bad ass
Max Eldar armour is 12.
You take them because only about 10% of the armies out there are eldar/necrons.

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
This is the reason why they really should make AC-style lists for all the races. Making a super tank company who will only EVER fight mainly infantry-based forces is kinda not needed.
However against Iron Warrios (with 4 Heavy Support and up to 9 Obliterators) something like a Vanq might come in handy.

It could be that I'm completely wrong but I thought you couldn't take normal leman russes as hq's so you would take it for that right?
Elder armored company would be murder. 8 falcons or Fire Prisms running around with spirit stones and holo fields would be imposable to kill and would drive your opponent mad before the game ended.
If you are facing eldar, then yes it isn't worth the extra points.
AC has a real lack of AT weapons, so it is a real good idea to take a Vanquisher for all those "regular" tanks.
As an HQ or Tank Ace your Vanquisher is BS4 which makes it worth while!

a normal leman russ upgraded with tank rounds in armored company cannot shoot anti-tank rounds on the move. the vanquisher can and the vanquisher(s) is your HQ or a Tank Ace(s) so it'll have boosted ballistic skill and the same or more upgrades than other tanks in the army. Add Ace Gunners... A vanquisher turret is a really easy conversion. I haven't actually used vanquishers in more than 2 games. I can understand why people would rather spend points on the cheaper tanks.
Vanquishers are a more cool effect and would be best for big huge scenario battles. Like when a store or club hosts a battle with multiple tables linked together.
