Would it work?
I'm talking rhino rush, smokes on turn 1 (or just hide, whichever is easier), turn 2, jump out and rapid fire (a lá Tau fish of fury) with 10 sisters. or possibly 7 sisters, and then do some burning with a flamer/heavy flamer sister and a VS with a Brazier.
10 sisters in a rhino with smokes and armour is only 168pts, would a mech list based around this sort of 'jump out and burn/bolter stuff' work well?
Yep it works very well in fact, mechanised armies are very common for Witch Hunters, especially with the combination of Flamer templates and the "Divine Guidance" acts of faith. Generally they look like this:
9 Sisters: Flamer, Heavy Flamer - 200pts
1 Veteran Superior: Combat weapon, Pistol
Rhino Transport: Extra Armour, Smoke Launchers
The problem with such lists is that sometimes they have too many vehicles which means they can hinder themselves in movement (especially should the most forward rhino blow up or is immobilised, the rest of the transports behind struggle past) or when dense terrain is present you'll find that the transports can't actually get your troops anywhere. As a consequence the Seraphim are often employed in conjuntion with the mechanised sisters as they do not suffer from the disadvatges of transports as well as being able to keep up and easier to conceal behind terrain.
Yep it positively works.
Put a Rhino on a table. Draw a line at on the table under the front bumper.
Move the rhino forward 12", and pivot it 180 degrees.
Deploy 10 sisters in a horse-shoe shape, with a small part of each base within 2" of the doors.
Mark off where the models now stand.
REmove all models from the table and look at the distance.
You will see that it's a heck of a lot of movement.
Now imagine how many hits a well-placed flamer will make with all that potential movement.
The fact that any flamer may move anywhere onto the horse-shoe is the cherry.
It gets you a lot of extra hits.
Sisters Repentia: Wow what beautiful models! Wow what terrible rules! -stjohn70
im new to sisters and witch hunters and i decided that mech sisters are form me. As silly as it sounds, mech sisters are more "hardy" then walking sosters, as they can get to the enemy and lay down those flame templates really quickly. Plus, the rhinos allow you to redeploy your troops much more quickly then if they walked.
Howver, for mech sisters to work reallky well, you need lots of targets- say 2 sister units in rhinos, a seraphim squad, an immolator and 2 exorcists
I was considering at least 2 sister squads in rhinos, a couple of exorcists, an immolator full of retributors, an immolator full of dominions, 2 squads of seraphim, and perhaps some celestians in rhinos. perhaps with some support from an inquisitor in a land raider
Why a Immolator full of Retributors out of interest? The rest of your specified choice seems fine but unless you're using multimeltas for the Retributor squad you don't really need to give them mobility. Of course I guess you could take the transport just for the sake of it but this will eventually lead to your army being clottered with vehicles which can impead on each others movements.
He probably meant a Dominion squad.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
nono, i said dominons aswell.
I wanted retributors in an immolator, a) because i want the entire army mounted (for a fluff reason i haven't thought of yet, and to match up against my mech tau force) and b) so they can sit around and shoot things whilst the immolator goes off burninating things. Or sits at the back with a heavy bolter/twinlinked multimelta, to support the retributors. I've not found the case of too many vehicles a bad thing really, but that said, that's playing with skimmers. is that a widespread problem (rhino traffic jams?)
w exorcists are pretty much necessary for mech sister, Rets are usefull fire support with heavy bolters and I tend to stick them in an immolator on the army list but then never get in it, rather it joins the rhino rush to add fire power and protect the rhinos
Dominions dont cut it, it sounds all good - 4 flamers, plus VSS with brazier, plus the ehavy flamer of the immolator sounds lethal, but generalyl by the third template you have run out of targets, the sister troo squad is better because the flamer and heavy flamer pick off the first targets, what is left gets mopped up by divine guidance bolters
Everything you have been told is a lie!
