We have had a recent upswing of chaos players in our group. (Now 50% are playing chaos in one form or another). And one particularly vile player likes to make some rather brutal slaaneshi lists. Now, I have a Daemonhunter army that has been sitting on my shelf for a while, and I figure now is the time to bring it to bear.
I am about tired of chaos.
We have Iron Warriors, Black Legion (Slaanesh), Black Legion (Nurgle), Word Bearers, and World Eaters.
What sort of configuration would you suggest works the best. This list is not designed to win friends. This list is not designed to win any points for composition. This list is an exercise in crushing your enemy utterly and hearing the lamentations of their women.
Things that particularly irritate me.
-Infiltrating Daemon Princes with D.Speed
-Hiding within, but not 'joining' a squad
-Tank Hunting Autocannons (this is mainly a peeve for my eldar)
-Noise Marines (are sonic weapons broken to anyone else?)
-Bringing 3 heavy support choices, and then 3 more by giving them Marks
I do not have any grey knights, but have a good amount of Imperial guard and Sisters of Battle to induct. So far my list is fluffy, and built around a radical inquisitor. Inquisitor Lord Reide has some damonhots, and a personal attendant army (The same model functions as an arch-heretic in my Lost and the Damned army).
But now, I beseech those who are wiser than me in the great art of army building. How can I build an 1850 list of chaos crushing doom?
Gentlemen (and ladies) start your building.
* "I'm Significant!" -screamed the dust speck
* "Call me old fashioned, but an evil ascension to power just isn't the same without someone chanting faux Latin in the background."
i've gone up against chaos a couple of times (only a couple as im still a nooblar with little experience), but i found not too significant a difference... i mean with all the daemon hating these guys are sposed to do you'd think... but the thing was there were no daemons involved here. which specifically all the anti rules go after, and not chaos in general. so make sure you're fighting lots of daemons
that's all i can tells ya for i r teh nub.
Dude, turn the enemy's strength against itself.
If everyone's playing straight chaos, you're looking at a LOT of MEQs. Plasma is the order of the day. You can get stormtrooper squads 6 strong with 2 plasmas for like 80 points. Run 5 or 6 of these. You can use ordnance weapons (such as a vindicator) to take down those characters hiding within squads.
That's pretty much my advice as it stands. Noise marines should probably be engaged with GKs, as even if they strike after the noise marines they will not take too many casualties.
In my experience a Grand Master is pretty much guaranteed to kill a daemon prince or greater daemon in round one of CC.
I agree with Terraneaux.
Plasma and ordenance will cause them all sorts of problems. Your IG can take care of these aspects.
Greater deamons can be taken down by an anti Chaos GK Hero with retinue. Sacred Incence and Grimoir of True Names are handy wargear.
It's worth a krak!
Just how many of these puppies have Daemonic Stature, cause, as far as I remember, Daemon Princes with Stature cannot infiltrate.-Infiltrating Daemon Princes with D.Speed
Don't quote me on that, but that's what I remember hearing.
Generally, it's better to propose your army list in the army lists subforum, tell us what you're trying to accomplish with it, and then you'll get some very constructive feedback.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Hey all, I am an Iron Warrior player so I should be able to help you out some. First, MalSeraph is right, statured lords CANNOT infiltrate. This is very easy to overlook in our codex so call us on it.
Second, Terreaneux is right with plasma. You need to break AP 3/2 with a lot of weapons. The more low AP weapons you take the more they die.
Third, kill the greater daemons and princes, but be careful with the normal daemons! Greater daemons are gone once they die. However because daemonhunters are good at killing us, normal daemons gain sustained attack whenever they fight daemonhunters (its in your codex so dont blame me). Shouldnt be an issue with slower daemons, but with furies, screamers, or flamers they can rejoin combat quickly.
Fourth, Chaos is VERY diverse. Tactics that work against one list may fail horribly against another. Iron warriors stand and shoot while slaaneshi princes assault first round.
Some sound overall tactics are:
-Ask which units can summon daemons (ie most princes cannot) and butcher them or get ready for em.
-AP 3 is your friend.
-You cant stop a first round infiltrating charger, but he has to infiltrate 12-18 inches away so deploy to cut him off from your fragile units.
-World eaters often have to move towards the closest target, so take a speed bump and have the berzerkers charge after him in circles if you can. I like to call it Khorn Kiting.
-Charge Iron Warriors, we dont have daemons.
I dont know much about daemonhunters to tell you what units to take, but this should help tactically.
Also PM me if you have any specific questions. I dont check this side of the forum often but I am more than happy to help.
Thats great advice monodan... have some cred
