So I took on a Demonhunters force in a 1000 pt fight. With a drop pod, I deployed a full squad of Marines. With Rapid Fire (including a Plasma Gun) was unable to inflict a wound. He made all his saves. Charging him my next turn with 2 less (his AP 2 Pistol), still unable to kill him off, and my squad is destroyed. A few turns later, my Assault Squad charged it. With my Commander attached he made 2 wounds, but the Vindicare passed again. Since my Commander had two wound from a turbo-penetrator, I of course failed one save and lost my commander. The rest of my squad, including a Vet Sgt with a Powerfist, were unable to inflict a SINGLE WOUND!!!!! He made ALL his saves. Thats right, ALL of them. Eventually, my Assault Squad was destroyed by him. Half of my models were killed by A SINGLE %*#$#*(#)%#_%@ %U#I(%# model! This is not mathematically possible.....*cries*
Don't you have bad luck.
Maybe you should play orks or tyrnids where you can have lots of models. So they won't die off so fast.:w00t:
Against daemon hunters you want ordanance. And shooting stuff because they love close combat. Although some could make a shooty list but won't be as good as there close combat at all.
Did he use the same die for each and every roll. Cuase it might be weighted.....
But ya, you likely just got unlucky. What you should have done is just ignored it after it started kickin your backened and focussed on the rest of his army.
Nevermore Chapter: 6200 pts; 97/49/11; Longest Streak: 9 Wins/4 Losses; Nearing Completion
Hm. Well, there's not a lot you can do to stop someone from passing saves a lot... however, there are things that you can do to make it impossible for him to take a save in the first place!
Sadly, you're going to have to take Daemonhunter allies to do it... but still. It's always an option. Just grab an Inquisitor with a psycannon.
That being said, ignore the Assassin. I've noticed that you're having a hard time with it, so I'd try to ignore them altogether. The Vindicare isn't all that dangerous to your army as a whole, so try to not worry about it too much. Focus on shooting up things like units of Grey Knights who can put a serious hurting on you should they reach assault.
Tried ignoring the Assasin. I used my anti-IG army I posted. He owns a Demonhunters, Blood Angel, and IG forces, keeps changing on me. Though I snuck in an extra Plasma Gun for the flamer. My other Pod dropped, and Rapid Fired all shots at a Grey Knight Squad. With my Plasma Gun overheating TWICE (snake eyes), and making all his other saves, was unable to inflict a casualty. With my Bikes, they were whittled away from other Squad of Grey Knights and a Land Raider. At that point, I wanted to kill SOMETHING. Was denied even that. Damn it, I cant even inflict a single casualty......*cries*

Wow... Just... Wow.
Either he's cheating or something, or you're having some of the most insanely bad luck I've ever heard of!
Seeing the Vindicare dodging a ton of shots isn't exactly unheard of (scouts can do some crazy stuff with that 4+ save, too), but he should not be even close to that strong in close combat. He's just carrying the pistol and rifle, so you're basically facing a Marine captain with a 4+ save, fighting bare-handed. No power weapon, not double armed, only a 50/50 save... He might have been able to save his wounds, but he shouldn't be able to tear through your marines like that.
As for the rest of the problems, it looks like more spectacular bad luck.
Ignoring the assassin is definitely the best bet - from long range, he can kill an absolute maximum of 6 models, ever. About the only big risk is if he picks off your Powerfist Sergeant just before you charge a Dreadnought or something.
Seeing GK squads taking no casualties is a bit odd, but considering the lousy performance of your plasma weapons it's not that strange. After all, with some good rolling, power armour can turn aside a ton of punishment.
Really, your best bet is just to hammer them with everything you can throw at them - they've got to fail those saves at some point. The problem is that GK's can out-shoot you man-for-man, at a full 24 inches. You'll outnumber them nearly 2 to 1 normally though, and if he's fielding a Land Raider you'll probably manage 3 to 1 or better.
You should have a significant edge, man... I don't really know what to tell you.
Keep your distance, focus on getting lots of bodies on the field and lots of shots down range. Heavy weapons are your friends - Heavy Bolters for more shots, Lascannons/Missile Launchers for some (nearly) guaranteed kills, maybe the odd Plasma Cannon to toast several guys at once. Armour is a good bet, since he's not likely to have much Anti-Tank stuff - Predators and Dreadnoughts work pretty well, just don't get assaulted!
I agree with wraith, he can fire at a maximum of 6 models per game and only has a 50% chance of wounding with each shot. I am pretty surprised to see your oppnent even take one as callidus and eversor assasins are usually considered much better picks.
"I am the architect of fate!"
Sniping a squads hidden powerfist just before a dread charges it is invaluable. However yeah, other others are generally better.I agree with wraith, he can fire at a maximum of 6 models per game and only has a 50% chance of wounding with each shot. I guess the vindacre is good vs armies that rely on their sarge's (or equivalents).
Orks and WE spring to mind.
I never had a problem taking out my friends Vindicare. His special bullets fail. He misses w/ the sniper rifle... He actually did better w/ his pistol and into cc last game. He even shoots into close combat cause he doesn't follow targeting restrictions (seemed to check out to me).
So your opponent can cater his army to yours but you never know what you will face?
Yea, he has the equipment to largely counter any force I make. The Vindicare is used largely for its psychological benefits at this point......and it is working well.
