Hello, it's me the noob with the white Space Marrine army. I decided to purchase a commander for my army as he comes with all sorts of extra bits that will be helpful to me as I collect other soldiers. But now I'm having trouble figuring out what the weapons are.
I hope this isn't a stupid question. How are you supposed to know what each wapon is? I have looked in the codex but there are no named pictures there and there are only a few pictures of Space Marine weapons in the Rulebook (pg 30 or so).
So my 2 questions are
1. Is there a list somewhere that puts names of guns to pictures of them?
2. Can you help me out with the names of these weapons?
Firstly, there are no stupid questions... and secondly, the 40k rulebook has a section that has some weapon pictures and what they are, but even those are hard to learn because the pics are sketchy.
I learned from my friend, and just over time.
You can start to identify weapons on certain characteristics. Like meltas have a stubby silencer looking thing, bolters have fatty clips, plasma has a battery looking area, power fists are over sized hands.
It'll come to you!
A - Combi-melta
B - Combi-plasma
C - Chainsword
D - Power Weapon
E - Power Fist
F - Storm Bolter
G - Lightning Claw

"D" is in fact a power weapon. If you look at the sides of the blade you will see the lines of the power wires (or whatever you would call them). If you scraped them off you could then call it a regular CCW. There is no such weapon as a "power" chainsword. There is a reason why people would be annoyed with this, it is call "what you see is what you get".
Just out of curiousity, whats next? Maybe you can make an issue about the fact that GW didn't define the action of 'rolling' a D6 to actually mean dropping it in such a manner as to produce a random result; thus making it perfectly acceptable to just put them down with the face up of your choice?

There should be a site or book somewhere that shows what every weapon looks like uncluding variation. Because I am fairly removed from the gaming community (only really conversing with gamers online) it can be frustrating when you can't just ask someone everytime you have a question.
they explain the configurations in the codex. A is the bolter/ melta combi, B is the bolter/plasma combi, E is a powerfist, C is a ccw or close combat weapon, D is a power weapon. F is a storm bolter and G is a lightning claw.
I beleive there is a wargear book out there. Not sure what it includes.
