Ever since reading Execution Hour two years, followed by Shadow Point and Rogue Star, I've been tinkering with the idea of an Imperial Navy inspired IG army. While I have a few loose ideas as to what I might do any and all suggestions would be quite helpful and greatly appreciated.
Thanks In Advance,
just a few screws loose.....

i'm thinking navy blue uniforms... white stripes on the underarms to denote rank... getting bare heads and sculpting loads of caps. Epaulets. Gold anchors.
Making the rearside of a leman russ like the back side of a ship:
You can also combine this with a droptroop doctrine, that would add some extra character.
Is it a regiment that always drops to the surface and then returns to space? or are they ship security personnel which are pressed into service? or are they like modern day marines: they started as shipbased forces but now operate largely on the planets surface whilst retaining their navy uniforms?
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

Im thinking use Mordians with your color scheme to represent the naval ratings, Catachan plastics as conscript platoons to represent press gangs, and maybe use Arbites as stormtroopers to represent security officers and breach teams. I dont know if id use the tank as im trying to stylize them as strictly ship-board except in the most dire of circumstances but either way im very tempted to to try out your idea and just see what i can do with it.
once again thanks for the help,
just a few screws loose.....
I was defenantly thinking mordians for the basc troops. Perhaps try emprie militia for press gangs? Shouldnt be too hard to convert. Karskin would look good for breach and bording teams as well. Perhpas use them as veterans or stormtroopers. Navy blue and white owuld definantly be the way to go.

i think necromunda gangs would work nicly. you could also field ogryns as mechanists, or better, coal diggers if you want to go for a bit archaic way. ....or maybe they should be cooks, defending their kitchen if attacked
i guess, fluff wise, a tech priest should be inclueded, but in a naval army without tanks, he won't be of much use probably. maybe if you include chimaeras. they are amphibic so they work fluffwise. you could convert them to hovercrafts too. i bet that would look awsome.

Make the Lasguns as small as you possibly can, cut off stocks and remove barrels. Seeing as they're fighting in close quarters they wouldn't want to wield a long and bulky rifle.

Yes, modular weapons are a must for tightly packed ship corridors.
Also, the Chimera is capable of water travel
Navy Blue fatigues, white armour plates(Or the other way around)... Swanky hats. I can see that being a fairly flashy army. Rapiers for your commanders and officers, as well as pistols. As for other units, I suggest Veterans because carapace is a bit to heavy for ship board action.
So are they going to be Orbital Drop troops? Or what? Because if so, take some Sentinels for armour at least. They are small enough to fit in the larger corridors of Imperial Navy ships, and are capable of dropping in with the rest of the boys =D
