Meat, Marines aren't IG
Metal, Tanks all the way
Figured I'd post this little poll over an issue I'm having with polishing up a 1500pt army for my marines.
I'm torn twixt fielding a predator or maybe another tactical squad, or maybe a second vindicator, or a second scout team...
In essense, where do you folks stand?
Do you favor more meat on the field? (assault marines, bikes, tac squads, scouts)
Or more Metal? (Rhinos, Vindicators, Whirlwinds, Predators)
If its a balance, how do you set the balance?
Let's put this simply.
Marines are very tough and resilient, and will survive against most small arms fire.
Tanks can be busted by one lucky shot, but only one marine at a time with the same weapons.
_+ save and toughness _ make for very resilient infantry.
Meat, all the way. - Tsk tsk, Adrian-. I've never had to edit one of your posts before. - Firedrake28

Glory for the Emporer is acheived through the righteousness of his Angels of Death, the Space Marine. Who needs tanks when the Emporer is your shield?
I prefer meat, but Whirlwinds are cheap , don't need Los and can cause huge damage on most armies (they don't shine versus MEQs but some casualties+pinning are always nice for their low cost).
A Vindicator is always something your opponent will worry about, but he can be killed with a single hit as soon as he moves ç_ç
Dreads are a pain if they can be drop-podded in a good position, foot-slogging them is a bit dangerous.
I'd go with meat + 2 Whirlwinds, since they can really help the result of combat at a cheap price and will often survive the whole combat.

I've fielded 2 dreads before..one podded..one ranged..
The ranged one died after firing 2 shots, the podded one died after 1 round of CC(massacred then got shot)
The whirlwind usually gets left alone...
And whenever I personally go against someone with a predator...that's one of the first things to fall, usually before he can shoot all of his armament even once...
I say meat through and through..
The more targets, the more chances to miss, and the more chances to save..
1 lazcannon Vs a Tank
1 Lazcannon Vs 10 marines...
The only vehicles I ever take are transports, so they dont take up a heavy support slot. Space marine tanks are quite simply, crap. The land raiders are pretty nice, but they are very expensive, and then if you only have one, it will get targeted, and destroyed fast. So, you gotta get a second one, and all of a sudden a good chunk of your points are taken up by these two tanks!
I play my 40k with friendly fire.
Finally fixed the link!
I play mostly meat with two whirlwinds.
And two range dreadnoughts for the annoying tanks. Mobile lascannon with S10 (TankHunters) rocks!
not for everyone though.

My vote goes to meat, squads of supertough marines means at least 10 shots to completely kill, vs 1 lucky shot to take out a tank.
especially since tac squads can get heavy weapons to make them just as effective as tank mounted versions.

I usually go about 50/50 40 marines, good number in my opinion, and 2 dreads with assault cannons, and 2 pred annihilators, with lascannons galore, then a few bikes for speed
