I'm going to take on an Iron Warriors player who's whooped me thrice now.

He packs his troop SQUADS together, but keeps the overall army spread out, with plenty of tank and Defiler support.

After looking through the Codex, I'm thinking that Orbital Strikes will be the best bet.

The army actually seems to excel and spreading, and then shooting.

So, I would like some help in knowing two things.

    1) What would be the best Orbital Strike to use against this highly armoured army,

    AND

    2) Where would be the best places to mark down for Orbital Strike? Center, deployment area, where?

If a tree falls in the forest, and it lands on a mime, does anyone care?

As your targetting both troops and tanks, I'd take the Lance strike, then they will be forced to use invuln saves or not get one as well the high str will make damaging tanks easy.

Generally, just key it to a piece of terrain as close to the largest, slowest troup of enemy possible.
So if he likes to keep his heavies together near a forest, target the forest.

I would recommend aiming towards the center of his deployment seeing how as it ALWAYS scatters, so just in the general area with it's 30" scatter range depending on the piece of terrain you target usually works well. I'd recommend the Lance Strike as well, as it does mass amounts of damage and can instant kill those friggin Daemon Princes. But try to aim right towards the middle of where you expect his army is gonna set up.

I would select the biggest piece of terrain in his deployment zone because you can center the template on any portion of that terrain pice even if it extends all the way across the board so the larger the piece the more options you have for its starting point

I love the lance strike but out of 5 turns (IF it shows up turn 2) I would only expect it to actually hit a unit or tank twice - but he will fear it nontheless

I like using the word in your ear skill the assassin gets to move a unit onto the targeted piece of terrain. Than throw improved coms on a vehicle to help you get that reserve roll.

yea definately lance strike, its the only one there to take. lol u could see if he agrees to play with a river, or something, larger the terrain piece the better for you. dont expect too much from it though, it rarely hits, but when it does, its amazing. I usually only use it to scare the opponennt to move in the direction i want.

Somebody please clear this up for me: When placing the Orbital Strike, you can place it on a new part of the SAME terrain feature and then scatter it every turn when it finally comes into play, right? This is how we play it here, but the Codex is a little vague on this.

Basically, you choose a piece of terrain. Each turn it shoots, you place the template over that terrain, ANYwhere on that terrain (although you have to cover as much as possible, which is key for targeting a road or a river), roll scatter from that location, kill things, and repeat. You ARE allowed to reposition the template each turn, as long as its still on the same terrain and covering as much as possible, blah blah blah.
