Ok this may be a short lived topic, but it popped in to my head.
One issue with GKs that people keep bringing up is that termies and PAGKs can be diffecult to get to the enemy. So when playing a COD game, what are the most beneficial Stratagems to take?
Well while reading through the COD book, there are quite a few tasty options, but there are two that stand out to me(im considering that Gamma missions are the norm, or at least the average). These two are Sewer Rats, and preliminary bombardment.
Sewer rats - OK come on, SR is the Most useful Strategem in the book. It's brilient, and although is a little scary if your opponent takes it as well, its still awsome. In my last game this one won me the game. Also its safer then DSing and if you have serafims, then this is the best possible choice.
Preliminary bombardment - I like this one, and I know that even thought there are better Strats out there, this one can be nasty, Especially if your opponent is tank heavy.
Other Possible Stratagems:
Defended Building(or whatever it is, Im close) - Can be nice if your camping dreads or a long rand =I=.
Ammo Dump - I would only take this one if your list is toting a Psycannon Inq. with 36" Gun servitors. leave the second Sage at home, now you get to reroll all missed hits.
Closing: These are the stratagems Which I found most useful, But i want to hear from all of you.
When you play Cities of Death, which stratagems do you choose? also note if you have any Stratagems specific to certain armies, please post them too.
Ok, please decifer that, and post!
1500pts GK - WIP
2000pts Skaven 0/4/0 I'll get there enventually
2000pts Khorn 20/4/2 - Retired
"I have a new ship, i'ts called the Lollipop." "I have no Information on that ship" "It's new, just been commissioned, It's a good ship!"
My favourite strategem is demolision.
Because my opponent knows that there is a building that is likely to come down around him any turn, they are more reluctant to go running into buildings on their side of the board for cover.
I always use this strategum in tandem with the Melta Torpedo Orbital Strike. You can basically herd your opponent away from the orbital strike into a building with demolision...
or towards your awaiting storm bolters.
I love orbital strike for CoD battles. Imagine the look on your opponents face when you key your orbital strike to the building with his ammo dump. Those Devestators/Havocs wont be standing there for very long.
Orbital strike makes it almost impossible for your opponent to defend an objective building that it is keyed to. And its like taking candy from a baby when you deep strike your Termies into an empty building.
It's worth a krak!
I take Preliminary bombardment 95% of the time. It is nice to be able to try to wound or remove some of the enemy befor the game. I really like it when the other person puts more than one unit in a building. The makes it even better for you to destroy the building.
Sewer rats are a great stratagem because you can deploy from any where. Or you can take them and not use them. Not useing them makes it where the enemy has to stay close to an entrance and that leaves his forces more open to attack and if done right the enemy can not support his squads.
Power Generator is another favorit stratagem. The ability to reroll to wound is very nice.
Depending on what the mission is and what you have to do in the mission will determin what you should take not what you will take. Take Urban Assault. If you are going to be facing a horde or a strong army with fast moving units the two stratagems that I would sugges to take are Fortification and Medicae Facility. WIth the medicae you get feel no pain and with fortifications you and a bonus of +1 to cover saves. It makes it very hard for the enemy to take that building.
Why use science and education when ignorance and superstition will work just as well.
I think there is just one strategem that is a Must Have if you're relying on GK in your army. (And I do!) That is Combat Engineers. With it, you can safely assault into a building and your GKs will definitely get to fight. Otherwise, you stand a chance of losing a few precious models from your front ranks, reducing the effectiveness of your assault. It's bad enough that your GK numbers are always limited, knowing that you have to lose a few GKs every time you want to assault is just untenable. Rooting forces out of buildings is a huge part of CoD games; for that reason alone, Combat Engineers is always required.
However, there is the additional bonus of having a one-time 5+ cover save. If you're forced to scuttle across open streets under that defiler's battle cannon.... And finally, though rarely necessary, booby-trap protection! Rather than practically guarantee losing a precious GK, you can practically guarantee that you keep him instead.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
