Can an Independant Character utilize a Drop Pod Transport for his personal and lone use?
I understand the Command Squad has the option, but I am looking for a way to include a single character in a Drop Pod. Is this possible?

Sorry, but they don't have the option to take any transports at all, when by themselves.
Simple fact. They need a squad. Be it command squad or Terminator command squad.

Here's what you can do. If you give him Terminator Armour, then he's allowed to start in Reserves in all scenarios, regardless of rules. Then, if you have Drop Pods with eight man squads, he can join them when he becomes avaliable.
Caveats to this -
That being said - it's so much easier just to take a Command Squad.
- The IC must have Terminator Armour.
- The Drop Podding squad must have space for the IC, so at maximum, eight members in the unit.
- Both must arrive on the same turn. If the Pod arrives and the IC doesn't, then the IC is left behind. If the IC arrives and no Podding units arrive, then he must Deep Strike on his own, without any Pods.
I've just been informed that in the Space Marine FAQ, an HQ in Terminator armor is allowed to join a normal unit in a Drop Pod so long as there is room for him to fit, and he becomes available from Reserve in the same turn.
So, what that means is that you could have your usual 8 man Tactical Squad like this:
-6 with bolters
-1 with melta gun
- Veteran Sergeant with bolt pistol and power fist
- Mounted in Drop Pod
And then you could attach someone like this:
- power sword
- storm bolter
- Terminator armor
- iron halo
to the above Tactical Squad, since there's two slots left for him to fit (as a Drop Pod can carry 10 models, and your Terminator armored model counts as two), and both units pass their Reserve roll on the same turn.
EDIT: Oh, look, Caluin has barged in on my territory again. I'll see you in the Chaos section, Cal.
Hey thanks yall
I was pretty sure it went gone fly, but I thought I'd check to see if any Rules Deviants could find me a loop. Oh wells, I play tested the 750 list I prepared for an upcoming team tournament last night, and I'm proud to say I was fairly impressed.
It was 2000 vs 2000, I had allies
Good things: I dropped Tactical Squads near Leman Russ (3 to be precise). The tanks never got to fire as I landed within 6" with Meltaguns and eliminated them in one sweep. My Plasma Devastator unit eliminated 5 Grey Knight Terminators in their drop, leaving the Grand Master, who I crushed with a Powerfist. True Grit is AMAZING. So are Heavy Flamers on Dreadnoughts.
Bad things: Librarian power Fear of the Darkness. The enemy Imperial Guard were equipped with Chem-Inhalers, so only my units failed their tests. Bad news Bears. Also bad: Deathwind Launchers. They never hit, I won't take them when the real tournament comes.
I'll post my list in the army list section, and I'd really like your (especially Firedrake and Caluin) opinions on it. Thanks!

You've been misinformed. The SM FAQ says nothing about HQ in Terminator Armour joining units in Drop Pods. The only thing even related is the statement that such models (HQ in TDA) can always start the game in Reserves.
The rules about Independent Characters joining units in Drop Pods is in the BGB FAQ, which states, as Caluin already noted, that you make the Reserve roll for both the unit and the IC, and if they both become available in the same turn, and there is room in the transport, then the IC can join the unit and deploy with it in the transport (in this case a Drop Pod).
Caliun is a space marine player, he just doesn't know it yet.
Oh, and this my turf. Firedrake28 just doesn't know that yet either
If your power armored HQ is allowed to start in reserves, and you also have drop poding units to start in reserves, and both players have agreed to the use of drop pods, then you could add him to another squad if that squad has room, and they both become arrive at the same time.
So the only time you could do this would be in some none standard missions.

In other words, read the darn the drop pod tactica.

Thus just use a command squad, and dont play drop pods under 1000 points, 1500 for better results.
