Ok this may seen like a n00b question to some of you vets, but this is really getting on my nerves (. When assigning doctrines to an infantry / command platoon say light infantry, do you have to purchase it for each individual squad in the platoon or just the command squad
And sorry if this is in the wrong forum area.
With Light Infantry, you can purchase it for each unit, but you are not obliged to do so. If you purchase it for your Comm squad, then the abilities are not conferred to the 10 man squads in that platoon. It is purchased for each unit individually. Think of the platoon structure of a ruling that you have to take 1 comm squad and x guardsmen, not that they count as a 'unit' on the tabletop. They do for deployment but that's about it. Each squad can do their own thing on the battlefield and as such, pay for their own upgrades.
Basically, any of the 'Skills and Drills' are an optional upgrade for your squads, and you buy the ability for each unit, but you're not obliged to. So if you had 'Sharpshooters' doctrine, you would be well within your rights to buy it for 'unit A' but not 'unit B'.
The 'Special Equipment' section is mandatory for all of your troops if selected however, according to what qualifies as a 'Guard Infantry' unit (P55 IG codex), and must be purchased for each eligible unit. Therefore 'unit A must buy it, as must 'unit B'
As a general rule, Storm Troopers are the only troops not affected by any doctrine, but as with everything in life, check the small print!

Everything to answer this question has been said, but just keep in mind that some doctrines cant be combined with others listed in the codex thus make sure you check the exceptions before you decide to purchase/choose doctrines.
