I am just wondering if there are any pre-established rules or conventions for using stuff from the more specalized space marine codexes (blood angels, grey knights, dark angels) in a chapter that you are building from scratch.
I have an army that i am building around fast attack and close combat (lots of assault squads, bikers, transports, etc) and want to use the furioso dreadnought that is listed in the blood angels codex because it would be a good fit for the fighting style i am trying to acheive with this army. I'm not talking about inventing any special rules or stuff like that, just taking a vehicle strait out of another codex for use in my army.
If you want a Furioso Dreadnought, then you have to use the Blood Angel rules.
If you want the Master of the Ravenwing, then you have to use the Dark Angels rules.
If you want a Ven Dread HQ, then you need to use the SW rules.
You CANNOT, in anyway shape or form, mix the codexs and their rules, and you can't pick and choose the units you want to use.
You use one ruleset per army. No more. Plain and simple.
Couldn't you just make an army that uses all of the BA rules but call them something else? As long as you're not mixing multiple rules I can't imagine it would be a problem as long as you told your opponent before hand.
what about taking the units as allies?
So then what is the point of the "we stand alone (no allies)" minor drawback from the general space marine codex?
bandit: Yes, you can. As Successor Chapters. However, I'm not sure this would work for Grey Knights.
Ira: They may take Inquisitors as Allies or Inquisitors may take them. I don't believe one can mix, say, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, and Inquisition forces. All must come from one Codex.
Ok, i'm satisified. Thanks! I am going to read the BA codex more closely and see if thats something i want to pursue or not.
