    CC Immolator squad

    Hi!

In my army list I'm planing to have a immolator packed with a squad made for close combat (since I belive its good to have some good close combat units in the army). The squad is designed to take down small squads of enemy's (5-10) rather then large ones where their amount of attacks would not be sufficient.

I am abit confussed on if I should have a celestian or domination squad.

Veteran Sister Superior (25/23p) and Priest (40p)
Wielding a power sword and bolter with sarissa. (2x17p)

4 dominons wielding either stormbolters (4* or flamers (4*9) or a combination.
    OR
4 celestians wielding one heavy and one regular flamer (18p)

Immolator with smoke launchers and extra armour (73)

The whole squad would with dominons cost 248-252 points and the celestians squad would cost 242 points.

    What do you think?

I would go with the dominions w/flamers. Flamers work well with divine guidance and the hope is that you'd kill enough of the opposing squad before charging in, because Sisters really aren't made for assault.

If you plan to jump out of the squad and immediately assault then i would take the Celestians w/2 regular flamers.

Just remember to fire the heavy flamers on the immolator, every turn where you could hit something, don't always use the smoke.

eh, the sarissa cant be combined wih a power weapon. to be honest, neither of these squads are cc oriented. truth of the matter is SoB suck in cc.

Celestians can hold their own in cc, but they are better used defensively since in every circumstance they will kill more with bolters than cc.

if you want a powerful cc unit, consider some grey knights or arcos, they're deadly, and will cost just about the same as the squads you have.

    hope this helps!

Stick to flaming and bolters. If looking for CC inside an SOB army you will find very few options. Plus, we do not have any transports that will let you get out and assault... I could see makign Celestians work, if only they could do that out of a Rhino or Immy or Repressor....

Nehring nailed it: Celestians must usually be used defensively.
    why?
The Bolter is better than CC.
The Celstians can't charge after firing Bolters, so the Celestians help best if they get charged.

If you want to put some CC killers in a Immo, you're choices are very limited.
I can't find any rule that prohibits Allied GKs from riding in an Immo taken as Heavy Support.
Be reminded that you can't assault out of it on the same turn you disembark.

As Im pretty new to this I had missed two important things:
    1. No assaulting after disembarking.
    2. Sarissas is useless (cant combine with anything, not even a ccw)

This kinda means that theres not a single unit in a pure SOB army that is good on cc, I thought I had come up with an ok option.

What do you stuff in your immolators?

Typically I put a six model Dominion Squad carrying four meltas in an Immolator.

I've wanted to try the 4xMelta configuration.
But I think I'd rather have 8 or 10 bodies in the squad.

    Give it a whirl Red!

The Dominions kill Dreadnoughts & tanks (and other big tough models) while the Immolator hoses down the troopies.

i dont really use my 2 immolators, i usually use them as rhinos instead.

but when i DO use them , i usually use them just as a heavy support choice w/o anything inside. but this is only done in small games as i fill up the slots with retributors or exorcists in larger games.
