What do you think the typical DA army is going to look like now, or are people even going to play them? Here are some of the things that I have noticed and thought about.
Flamers, Heavy Flamers, Rhinos (with no upgrades), Predator Destructors and LRCs are all much cheaper.
Very few vehicles have access to Smoke Launchers.
Dreadnaughts, LST and terminator AC are all signigicantly more expensive (and terminators may only buy 1 special weapon)
All Las weapons are hideously expensive, especially for vehicles.
Since the Ravenwing bikes have the Scout ability, and telehomers and with the new Deathwing Assault special rule I think you'll see a squad of Ravenwing bikes and a squad of Terminators in many armies.
I also predict more Predator Destructors, Dreadnaughts with TL Auto Cannons and a general increase in flamers and melta weapons.
I think at first people will try and field 2 Combat squads and a Rhino just to get the Heavy Weapon and in an attempt not to squander the Vet Sgt. IMO that's jsut throwing good points after bad. You already have to waste points on a vet Sgt, why spend the points on a rhino that can't buy Smoke Launchers, especially considering he's only got 4 comrades to join him.
Eventually I predict that people will not waste points on troops and focus on the specialist units (command squads, terminators with apothacaries, ravenwing bikes that scout, dev squads split into combat squads, etc).
War Record Since Sept 2005
Old Codex 48-20-9 Dark Eldar
New Codex 1-0-0 Dark Eldar
From what I understand, Smoke Launchers and Searchlights are included in the vehicle price for the rhinos and other 'vehicles'. Did I read that wrong?Originally Posted by medic_4077
All vehicles include Smoke Launchers and Searchlights, regardless whether their price rose or fell.
I'm mostly expecting mostly Terminators and Ravenwing units. Their special rules are too nice to pass up. Librarians and Ezekiel is also going to make a comeback.
Think about it, Culexus assassin next to that nightbringer, and you use mindworm on the Nightbringer. :shifty:
Personally, while not going with an entire Ravenwing Army, my first tourney test list will be using the Master of Ravenwing in the Speeder, which allows me to field attack squads (6 bikes with attack bike and LST) as troops choices, use Termies as the Elites, and have a 3 unit Support Squad (1 standard LS, one tornado, and 1 typhoon) as 1 Fast, and some Assault Marines for another. Was considering a Chaplain on Bike for a HQ too, making the assault upon my test opponent's Tau seem quite scary (at least I hope). I have lots of Devastators of a few different varieties to use as a heavy, as well as a Whirlwind, both type Preds, Land Raider, and I finally finished my Vindicator conversion based on the UK site instructions.
I just need to finish out the list and get it posted up for review (still not really exact on composition and point allocation, but this is the basic idea).
Just don't take extra armor, and the price of the rihno is acceptable same for the razorback.
I see mass razorback armies being one of the best options. Backed up by predator destructor's.
The tactical squads then serve as anti tank/close combat.
The army isn't very competitive, but its not entirely useless either, in larger point cost games.
Dreadnoughts are the most hurt unit, as they need extra armor more then any other tank. Thus in essence they are 30 more points then they should be, for no gain. Thus i predict they will vanish from the DA lists, when used in competitive play.I think the lack of invunerable save will leave many players with a bad taste in their mouths. After they realize force beerier works once per game turn. So predict few none terminator armor librarians to be played with. This includes Ezekiel.Librarians and Ezekiel is also going to make a comeback.
Yeah __ points for Rhino's already including smoke launchers and searchlight is a bargain. I can see lots of armies with ravenwing Deathwing options, simply because of the Scout move/Deathwing assault combo allowing your terminators to start 12 inches away from the enemy's deployment zone on turn 1.
As for Bolt pistols and Frag/Krak grenades as standard, i can see lots of nasty marine assaults. Moving, Shooting with all your bolt pistols and then assaulting. Which is basically giving your DA marines 10 extra attacks over a normal marine.
I think the book has really captured the feel of the Dark Angels, if not making them slightly worse than a standard marine codex army, although I feel a new marine codex will be released to fix that.

Besides, trait marines, and black templars can already to this better.
I dunno about you guys, I'd like to see the Company Veterans get used more often. They have some neat options, and they can be some great CC support for other squads.
