    1 chaplain leading death company.

2-4 five man tactical squads with veteran sergeants, and lascannons, auspex if points left over.

0-4 scout squads, 8 scouts, fisted veteran sergeant.

1-3 assault squads. 8 or 10 assault marines, 2 plasma pistols, 1 powerfisted sergeant.

    0-1 landspeeder tornados.

    1-3 baal predators.

0-1 dreadnoughts, with twinlinked lascannon, and ML.

This will create a dynamic army lists that is quite competitive and very balanced - in that it can take on virtually any army list.

    Cheers,
    Forged.

Competitive? Well...there are a lot of things you can do to make Blood Angels competitive. They're a very easy army to play, on the surface.

Firstly, you've got the regular assault squad tactic, where you just take advantage of the Veteran Assault squads and take crapload of assault marines and back them up with the Death Company.

The tactic I use is to have a two tactical squads to form a firebase, infiltrate a varying number of scouts to lock up the enemy (or get shot to pieces, which is what usually happens) and then use the DC and, in higher points games, an assault squad to form a second wave. Target priority rules and being forced to pick a target means they have to choose between the scouts and the DC - if they shoot at the DC, the scouts get to assault at full strength, and if they shoot the scouts, they're slaughtered but the Chaplain gets into combat unscathed and trust me - he hits like a sledgehammer into a bavarian cheesecake. This is a typical and predicatable method, but it's effective.

I try to mix it up otherwise. I sometimes take a Furioso (or two), put them in drop pods, and hope they land roughly near each other. Generally, they get shot at, but look at it this way - those are shots that aren't aimed at your troops, and if they fail, there's a Dreadnought running rampant in their firing line. It plays hell on Imperial Guard. Also v. cheap.

You could, if you wanted to cheese assault cannons, take nine LST's and three Baal Predators. That's...twelve assault cannons? People will not like you. But you'll probably win.

Then there's the maxed-DC trick, which I personally hate since it's cheesy and involves lots of 5-man scout squads, usually with naked sergeants. You basically take six six-man squads of Scouts, upgrade every sergeant to a veteran, and get two Chaplains. Your Death Company will average twelve men, with three free power fists - and two Chaplains, whom one can theoretically arm with thunder hammers if one were so inclined, making them really very, very damaging. This will average a 520-point HQ. It is also the single dirtiest, trickiest, silliest and probably the cunningest of all Blood Angels haxx0r tricks.

Most Blood Angels tactics rely on unit placement and deployment, which is important if you want to successfully assault. Their shooting power is underrated - it's just as potent as any other Space Marine chapter, just less reliable, due to the Black Rage. This means every squad on the board will, on average, be unable to shoot one turn per game. You can still shoot and destroy things - there is just the possibility, and a slim one, that you will not be able to.

The more LST in play, the less effective each one is. Most players would lose with this formation.

Especially considering how this army can withstand almost no punishment.

I should probably clarify; you will probably win, given you get the first turn and are deploying on the long board edge. Which is a bit of a stretch, but there you go.
