Choose now! Who do you like better? Veterans or Stormtroopers and Grenadiers? Vote now!:shifty:
This is a no-brainer. For a couple points less, you lose AP5 but get free infiltrate, free Deep Strike with drop troops doctrine, one more special weapon, a heavy weapon, and just the fact that they can be 20 for $35 if you convert as opposed to a lot more for metal figs.
If you think Mathammer doesn't work and dice cannot be predicted, there's a whole field of mathematics called probability that would like to disagree.
No brainer is right. Vetrans own stormtroopers anyday!! Unless playing a armour save 5 army of course.
You Shall Die At the Hand of The Emperors Wrath
Dont foget the fact that unlike storm troopers and grenadiers, the veterans actualy benefit from the doctrines cause they count as guard infantry, and the sergeant is considered an officer.
Compleat no brainer, Vets & Grenadiers, take both!

Stormtroopers all the way!
I would say Stormtroopers all the time, I just think there 10x better than veterans
and why on earth has my font changed hehe
Strom troopers - Veterans
Number of special weapons
Strom troopers - 2
Veterans - 3
Strom troopers - Costs you points per model
Veterans - Free (Via the Drop Troops doctrine which is also free)
Strom troopers - Costs you points per model
Veterans - Free
Strom troopers - Nice armour save which will guard you somewhat against bolters
Veterans - Paper
Strom troopers - A full two points more then veterans
Veterans - Great for what you pay for!
Strom troopers - See veterans but remember you need to pay for deep strike and Infiltrate.
Veterans - Can bye a transport. Can Infiltrate or deep strike.
Strom troopers - May take a power weapon and/or a plasma pistol if you upgrade him
Veterans - Can take officer only items for no extra cost! (You still need to pay for the weapons:shifty: )

"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
Now, even though I am repeating what others have already said before me in this thread, in the thread about the same thing we had last month and the thread we had about this the month before that.
- 3 Special Weapons
- 1 Heavy Weapon
- Doctrine access
- Sergeant can take officer only wargear
- Carapace Armour
- Frag Grenades
- Krak Grenades
- 2 Special Weapons
- Can pay for Infiltrate/Deepstrike
- Can be fielded as Troops using the Grenadiers doctrine.
More or less, if all we're going for when judging the two is killing power then the veterans come out on top every time. The difference between 4+ and 5+ armour doesn't do that much difference and Stormies comming with both Frag and Krak grenades is something I've had found useful thrice in two years of gaming.
Targeters on the other hand are a great tool when you're unsure whenether you should stand back and fire 1 shot or try to move closer to your opponent and get into rapid fire range or if you're curious if your opponent is close enough to assault you.
As for doctrines, Veterans come out on top with seeing as they're accually able to use them. Grenadiers however is a large plus for the Stormtroopers, since I can get around having to field an infantry platoon if I so choose(Which I do, since I play mechanised grenadiers).
I dislike the idea of comparing stormtroopers with veterans though, they're two elite units that are meant for different tasks - veterans pack a punch but might lose out on mobility by taking a heavy weapon. Not having a heavy weapon, Stormtroopers don't really lose out by moving around which makes them better to use for claiming objectives. I mean, if an enemy transport is moving across the field to unload a unit on the objective, the veterans will stay back and shoot - assuming the stormtroopers have a chimera(which any non infiltrating/deepstriking squad of stormtroopers should have!) they can meet the enemy transport head on and blow it appart with meltaguns entangling the enemy squad. That's of course a scenario that favours stormtroopers, since a unit of veterans with weapons is cheaper than a unit of stromtroopers with a chimera but I'm not saying this to compare the two, I'm trying to say that they're two different units that might be able to do the same tasks due to the awesome customisation available to a unit of veterans assuming you've got the doctrines for it but in the end and as such, stormtroopers lose out.
This is why you should be looking at what Stormtroopers do better than veterans and adjust the role of your Stormtroopers accordingly - this leaves your Stormtroopers with a role that Veterans cannot do as well even if they do have more options to them.
On a side note. Grenadiers > Stormtroopers.
When including one or the other in my armies, I always opt for Stormtroopers, and for two reasons. The first is the mobility. I give them a Chimera and they usually come through for me when I need to hold an objective/table quarter (usually my only unit capable of such a feat). The second is purely ascetic. I just love the Kasrkin models and they were the first thing I painted that I thought looked OK. Vets are objectively "better," but I Stormies come first in my heart.
